Types of Mountains Explained | Fold, Block, Volcanic & Residual

🏔️ Did you know that not all mountains are formed the same way?

Mountains are classified into four major types:

• Fold Mountains – Himalayas
• Block Mountains – Vindhya & Satpura
• Volcanic Mountains – Mount Fuji & Kilimanjaro
• Residual Mountains – Aravalli

Each type has a unique geological origin, and understanding them helps explain why the Himalayas are still young and geologically active while ancient ranges like the Aravallis have become much more stable.

How Were the Himalayas Formed? | From Pangaea to Himalayas (Part 2)

🏔️ The story of the Himalayas didn't begin millions of years after dinosaurs—it began around 250 million years ago with the breakup of the supercontinent Pangaea.

The Indian Plate broke away from Gondwana, travelled north, and eventually collided with the Eurasian Plate. That collision gave birth to the Himalayas.

Even today, the Himalayas continue to grow by nearly 5 mm every year, creating tectonic stress that can contribute to earthquakes and landslides.
