In a massive escalation of the week-old conflict, the United States and Israel launched a coordinated wave of airstrikes late Saturday night, March 7, 2026, targeting Iran’s critical energy infrastructure. For the first time in the war, the "Red Line" on civilian industrial assets was crossed as multiple oil storage facilities in and around Tehran were hit, resulting in at least four confirmed deaths and a "river of fire" flowing through the capital's streets.
Iranian state media and the National Iranian Oil Products Distribution Company (NIOPDC) confirmed that four major oil depots and one petroleum transport center were struck.
At least four personnel, including two oil tanker drivers, were killed in the blasts. While the refineries themselves were reportedly spared, approximately 30 oil storage tanks were destroyed. Debris and leaked oil reportedly ignited in Tehran's sewage system, creating surreal scenes of fire on the city's roads.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed the strikes, asserting that these fuel complexes were being used directly by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) to support military operations. Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu warned that the campaign is entering a phase of "many surprises."
