Centre approves ₹2,117.85 crore advance SDRF assistance for flood-affected states during the 2026 monsoon.

Assam has been sanctioned ₹379.35 crore, while Arunachal Pradesh, Gujarat, Himachal Pradesh, Maharashtra and Odisha have also received advance allocations.

The Centre has also deployed Inter-Ministerial Central Teams for flood-damage assessment in Assam and Arunachal Pradesh, with two assessment visits already undertaken in Assam.

Goalpara Flood & Anti-Erosion Protection | Assam

The Assam Water Resources Department initiated anti-erosion and town-protection schemes in Goalpara in 2022 to safeguard Goalpara town and neighbouring areas from the threat of Brahmaputra River bank erosion and flooding.

During 2024–25, geo-bag-based protection works were carried out at vulnerable locations to strengthen riverbanks and reduce the impact of strong river currents and seasonal flooding.

The Brahmaputra and its local tributaries can create significant pressure on riverbanks during the monsoon season. Preventive anti-erosion measures therefore remain important for protecting settlements, roads, public infrastructure and other vulnerable areas.

DVNA NEWS observes that continued monitoring, maintenance and timely strengthening of vulnerable riverbanks are essential for long-term flood and erosion management in Assam.

🌿 Jinjiram River Clean-Up Drive in Goalpara, Assam

DVNA NEWS (Delhi Voice News Agency) observes during a field visit by portal owner and journalist Rita alias Richa Sharma (Priyadarshini) that cleanliness and awareness activities under Swachh Bharat Mission (Grameen) are being highlighted around the Jinjiram River in Goalpara district, Assam.

Local village residents were seen participating in river-cleaning activities, showing the importance of community involvement in keeping local water bodies and their surroundings clean.

A locally constructed bamboo bridge was also observed during the visit, reflecting the role of traditional rural infrastructure in connecting communities.

Clean rivers need both awareness and active participation. 🌱

MGNREGA 2024-25: Water-Harvesting Pond Renovated Near Maharani Mandir in Khargapur, Assam
