Nyeman Wangsu from Longding, Arunachal Pradesh, has been selected to represent India at the 17th World Wushu Championship in Brasília, Brazil, to be held from September 1 to 8. She will travel with Team India from New Delhi to compete at the global stage.
A three-time National Games gold medalist, Wangsu created history by winning Arunachal Pradesh’s first-ever gold medal at the 38th National Games in Uttarakhand in the Daoshu event. She had earlier secured gold medals at the 36th and 37th National Games held in Gujarat and Goa.
The All Arunachal Pradesh Wushu Association (AAPWA), which has played a key role in promoting the sport, expressed pride in Wangsu’s achievement. Wushu is currently the state’s top medal-winning sport, with athletes making their presence felt not only in national competitions but also at the Asian Games.
AAPWA general secretary John Tara Bakey facilitated Wangsu’s participation, while coach Prem Chandra Singh of Sangey Lhaden Sports Academy provided technical training. Extending best wishes, the association said it hoped Wangsu would once again make the nation proud on the world stage.
