Don't skip Princep Ghat.

Built in 1843 in memory of scholar James Prinsep, this riverside landmark has stood on the banks of the Hooghly for nearly two centuries. It's fascinating to think how generations have walked these same paths, and all these years later, I got to experience it too.

For me, Princep Ghat has three highlights:
🚣 The peaceful Hooghly riverside and boating.
🌉 The stunning views of Vidyasagar Setu, especially as it lights up in the evening.
🚆 And the charming little Prinsep Ghat Railway Station, one of Kolkata's oldest suburban railway stations, which adds to the old-world charm of the area.

I visited in the winter of 2024-25. The pleasant weather, cool breeze, and golden evening light make it the perfect place to relax.

We walked along the river, clicked lots of pictures, explored the station area, and ended the tour with a boat ride. Watching the sunset over the Hooghly and the bridge gradually light up was the highlight of my trip.

Lately, I've started making space for two hobbies that ask for something very different from me—dancing and painting.

Dance teaches me to move. Painting teaches me to slow down.

This evening, my dance class got cancelled, leaving me with an unexpected free hour. Instead of reaching for mindless scrolling, I picked up this painting project that had been waiting patiently on my desk.

Life in your late 30s often feels like an endless stream of work, responsibilities, and daily distractions. I've realised that hobbies aren't just things we do to pass time - they quiet the mental noise, and leave us feeling lighter than when we started.

This paint-by-number kit definitely tests my patience and steady hands. Do you also paint?
