Dharampur was formed by King Dharmdevji in 1764 AD. It was ruled by the descendants of the Sisodia Rajputs of Chittod. After the fall of the Delhi Sultanate in South Gujarat, the State of Dharampur flourished and gained a very significant and powerful position by controlling at least seven strategic forts in the region. Khandesh, Ahmednagar and Gujarat Sultans were the neighboring Muslims states, yet Dharampur was not attacked. Moreover, it had trading relations with the Portuguese from where it received tax. Dharampur has seen development over the period of years. Many beautiful places like the Raj Mahal, stepwells, temples, Mohan Vilas Palace, museums and other infrastructural places were constructed. Lady Wilson is a well built museum dedicated to Lady Wilson. It is an example of early 20th century architecture. The museum contains rare and genuine art objects collected by the king himself. It is divided into many sections like anthropology, tribal, toys, industrial, arts and music. The music section has a fine collection of Indian, western and tribal music instruments and miniature paintings of Pahari style depicting various musical compositions-Indian classical ragas. Raj Mahal, the residence of the kings is now in a ruined condition, but you can have a look at the grand structure. The Radha-Krishna Temple, Japanese Garden and Nagarsheth Bunglow are worth visiting. The Japanese Garden, also known as Gandhibaug contains an imported clock from Japan- a novelty in those days. The Radha-Krishna Temple is designed more like a residence in colonial style with decorative plaster work and sloping roof. Moreover the entry gate of the town itself shows the wonders of architecture. It is known as Rajya Rohan Gate. It is constructed in European style and contains life size statues in Greek style adorning the top. It has developed itself not only culturally, but also educationally. The District Science Centre at Dharampur is one of such three centers in India. It is successfully involved in spreading scientific education among the tribals of this region. If you are visiting Dharampur, then one just cannot miss Wilson Hills, a beautiful hill station of Gujarat. Wilson hills is just 27 kms away from Dharampur. It was named after Lord Wilson, the governor of Mumbai. There are very few hill stations in the world which can give you a glimpse of the sea and Wilson hills is one of them. The destination is popular during summer due to the serene climate. There is a wildlife area called Pangarbari Wildlife Sanctuary located around Wilson Hills. The main attraction here is a marble “chhatri”, which is dedicated to British Governor Wilson. It represents a picturesque view of surrounding hills, flora and fauna and the Arabian Sea. Moreover, it is an ideal place for trekkers and mountaineers. Dharamapur is small town of Valsad district in Gujarat state. Dharamapur has many beautiful unknown places. Very few people is know about Shankar Dodh.. It is most beautiful..if u one time go here u will definitely come next time here.. Dharamapur have also famous temples.. Barumal Bhavbhaveswara Mahadev Mandir is famous temple.. There are only 4 Science centres in India and 1 of them in Dharamapur.. Near this Science centre there is Lady Wison Hill musume too....
