Ranaghat Gears Up for ‘Kavi Milan Utsav’ to Commemorate Historic Meeting of Two Poets Rabindranath Tagore and Nabin Chandra Sen

Sting Newz, Ranaghat: A memorable chapter in literary history is set to come alive once again in Ranaghat. The town is gearing up to host the ‘Kavi Milan Utsav’ on September 4, commemorating the historic meeting between poets Nabin Chandra Sen and Rabindranath Tagore in 1894.

The special literary and cultural event will be held at the Sub-Divisional Magistrate’s Bungalow. The programme will feature poetry recitations, music and various cultural performances. Preparations for the event are already underway.

A meeting was held at the Sub-Divisional Magistrate’s office on September 2 to discuss the arrangements and finalise the programme. The meeting was chaired by Sub-Divisional Magistrate Muhammad Sabur Khan, with discussions focusing on the event schedule and various organisational aspects.

Nabin Chandra Sen had once served as the Sub-Divisional Magistrate of Ranaghat. It was during his tenure that he met Rabindranath Tagore in 1894. The historic meeting between the two celebrated poets remains an important part of Ranaghat’s literary and cultural heritage.

The ‘Kavi Milan Utsav’ has been planned with the aim of preserving this legacy and introducing the younger generation to the significance of the historic encounter.

Those present at the preparatory meeting included Deputy Magistrate Jayanta De, Sub-Divisional Information and Cultural Officer Anushree Goswami, journalists Shafiqul Islam and Biswajit Bandyopadhyay, Rabindra researcher Dr Shubhadip Bandyopadhyay, recitation artist Indrani Ghosh, Chandrajit Pramanik, Subrata Ganguly, Partha Kar and social worker Balaram Saha, along with other prominent personalities.

With literature, history and culture coming together, the September 4 event is expected to add a special dimension to Ranaghat’s cultural landscape.

Alleged Attack on TMC Office on Camac Street in Early Hours; Abhishek Calls It a ‘Naked Attack on the Rule of Law’

Sting Newz, Kolkata: Political tensions have escalated in Kolkata following allegations of an early-morning attack and vandalism at a Trinamool Congress (TMC) party office on Camac Street. TMC national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee has spoken out against the incident after sharing CCTV footage of the alleged attack on social media.

According to Abhishek Banerjee, a group of BJP-backed miscreants, allegedly armed with weapons, forcibly entered the party office at around 4:30 am. He alleged that party workers were assaulted, their mobile phones were taken away, and office furniture and electronic equipment were vandalised.

Abhishek also questioned the role of the police. He claimed that despite repeated calls and emails from party workers and lawyers informing the police about the incident, there was no response for nearly two hours.

In a statement shared on social media, Abhishek demanded the immediate identification and arrest of everyone allegedly involved in the incident. He also called for a thorough investigation into who was behind the attack, who planned and organised it, and whose instructions were allegedly followed.
The TMC leader further sought accountability over why the police allegedly failed to take timely action despite being repeatedly informed. He said that no political party or armed group can be above the law.

However, the BJP’s response to these allegations and an official statement from the police are yet to be known. The exact circumstances surrounding the incident and the identities of those involved will become clear only after the investigation.
