Public Hearing on Umrangso Mines Tragedy

Diphu, September 4, 2025: The Government of Assam has set up a One Man Inquiry Commission under Justice (Retd.) Anima Hazarika, former Judge of the Gauhati High Court, to probe the Umrangso Mines Tragedy in Dima Hasao district.

The Commission’s mandate is to establish the facts and circumstances of the incident, which claimed four lives and left several others missing, and to determine accountability of officers, individuals, mining companies, or institutions involved.

As part of the inquiry, a public hearing will be held at the Assam Administrative Staff College, Guwahati, on September 9 and 11, 2025. Evidence and statements will be recorded from individuals, organizations, and family members of victims.

The public is urged to take part in the hearing so that all voices are heard and the causes of the tragedy can be fully understood.
