Union Minister of State for Road Transport and Highways Arrives at Bagdogra Airport on Official Visit to Sikkim
Siliguri, June 4 : Union Minister of State for Road Transport and Highways, Mr Ajay Tamta, arrived at Bagdogra Airport today on a three-day official visit to Sikkim from June 4 to June 6, 2026.
During his visit, Mr Ajay Tamta will undertake inspections of key National Highway projects, including NH-10, NH-710 and NH-510. He will also chair review meetings on various Central Government programmes, policies and infrastructure development projects being implemented in the State.
The visit aims to assess the progress of ongoing highway development works and review the implementation of important infrastructure initiatives in Sikkim.
Upon his arrival at Bagdogra Airport, Mr Ajay Tamta was warmly received by officials from the Protocol Unit, Camp Bagdogra, and Liaison Officer, Mr Jigme Lachungpa, Superintendent Engineer, Roads and Bridges Department.

Gyalshing District: Growing incidents of wild animal attacks have created fear and panic among residents in the Thingling–Khechuperi area. Reports of bears attacking ducks, chickens, goats, and other domestic animals in Thingling 1st were made public yesterday.

Locals are facing increasing financial losses due to these repeated attacks, leading to a sense of insecurity in the area. Concerned residents have urged the Forest Department to take immediate and effective measures to ensure safety and control the movement of wild animals.

Authorities are being called upon to act urgently to address the situation and protect both lives and livelihoods.

President of India Ms Droupadi Murmu arrived at Lok Bhawan today as part of her official visit to Sikkim.
On her arrival, the President was received by Governor Mr Om Prakash Mathur and Chief Minister Mr Prem Singh Tamang. Madam Krishna Rai, Chief Secretary Mr R Telang, DGP Mr Akshay Sachdeva, Commissioner-cum-Secretary to Governor, Lok Bhawan, Mr Jitendra Singh Raje, along with senior State Government officials, were also present to welcome the President.
The President is scheduled to attend official engagements during her visit to the State.

Incidents of scooter thefts are reportedly on the rise in and around Gangtok, raising concern among local residents. Citizens are being urged to stay alert and take necessary precautions while parking their vehicles, especially during late hours and in isolated areas.
Residents are advised to use proper locking systems, and park only in secure and well-lit locations. Public awareness and community vigilance can play an important role in preventing such thefts.

Gangtok, 20/05/2026: Prime Minister Narendra Modi appreciated the growing global interest in Indian culture as five Italian artists showcased classical Indian dance forms during a special performance.

The performers—Svamini Atmananda Giri, Martina Meenakshi Argada, Lucrezia Maniscotti, Valeria Vespaziani, and Rosella Fanelli—presented ‘Trigalbandi’, featuring a blend of Kuchipudi, Bharatanatyam, and Kathak.

The Prime Minister lauded the effort, highlighting how Indian classical dance continues to inspire and attract enthusiasts across the world, strengthening cultural ties internationally.
