147 Government Employees on Unauthorised Leave, 51 Found Late During Surprise Inspection
Gangtok, March 24, 2025: A surprise inspection conducted across various head offices and district offices on March 24, 2025, revealed significant lapses in employee attendance. As per reports from concerned departments and district offices, 147 government employees were found to be on unauthorised leave, while 51 employees reported late for duty.
Following the inspection, punitive action has been taken against the delinquent employees as per government regulations. Officials reiterated that the official working hours for state government offices are 10:00 AM to 04:30 PM, and all officers and staff are expected to be present by 10:00 AM.
The government has also issued a directive to Heads of Departments (HoDs) and Heads of Offices (HoOs) to ensure strict attendance monitoring and conduct surprise inspections at least once a month. A mandatory monthly report on attendance and punctuality must be submitted to the Chief Secretary’s Office.
Additionally, all district officers have been reminded to seek prior approval from the concerned District Collector before leaving their station, as per existing government orders. The administration has warned that strict disciplinary action will be taken against employees found violating attendance and punctuality norms in the future.
