The second day of the three-day 52nd Annual Conference of the Council of Board of School Education in India (COBSE), hosted by the Board of Open Schooling and Skill Education (BOSSE), continued at Chintan Bhawan today.
On the second day of the conference, Governor, Shri Lakshman Prasad Acharya, graced the valedictory session as the Chief Guest.
Also present were Mr Hemant Goyal, Conference Chief Patron and Group Chairperson, BOSSE, Dr Kuldeep Agarwal, Chairperson, BOSSE, Sikkim, Ms Asano Sekhose, President, COBSE and Chairperson, Nagaland Board, Dr Mahashram Sharma, Chairman, Nepal Board of School Education, Mr MC Sharma, General Secretary, COBSE, Ms Sumita Pradhan, Secretary, Education Department, officers from 39 educational boards and students from different universities of the state.
In his address, Governor Shri Lakshman Prasad Acharya expressed pleasure in participating in the Conference on the theme "Role of School Education Boards in Implementing New Education Policy 2020," organised by the Board of Open Schooling and Skill Education. He commended the organisers for selecting such a crucial topic, emphasising the significance of discussing the New Education Policy to meet India's evolving needs.
Highlighting the importance of education in Sikkim, he thanked the intellectuals who established the Open School and Skill Education Board. This institution has become a beacon for dropout children, providing them a second chance at education and steering the field of education in a new direction.
Reflecting on India's rich history, the Governor acknowledged its ancient civilisation, dating back over 8000 years, and praised the organised Gurukul system and renowned higher education institutions. He emphasised the profound impact of Indian culture and philosophy on the world, leading to India being called the 'Vishwa Guru' and the 'Golden Bird' for its prosperity.
The session also included a group discussion on the implementation of NEP 2020, focusing on the roles of School Education Boards and the proposal for conducting board examinations twice a year.
