United Airlines has made a major leap in in-flight connectivity with the launch of its high-speed, gate-to-gate Starlink Wi-Fi service. The first flight featuring this cutting-edge service took place on May 15, 2025, aboard a United Express Embraer E-175 flying from Chicago to Detroit.
This marks United as the first major U.S. airline to offer SpaceX’s Starlink satellite internet to its passengers. The service, which offers free access to MileagePlus members, delivers broadband speeds exceeding 200 Mbps, enabling seamless streaming, browsing, and work during the flight.
Unlike traditional in-flight Wi-Fi, Starlink provides uninterrupted connectivity from gate to gate, ensuring that passengers stay connected during taxiing, takeoff, and landing. United plans to equip its entire fleet of over 1,000 aircraft with Starlink technology, starting with regional jets and expanding to mainline aircraft by the end of 2025.
As air travel becomes increasingly tech-driven, United Airlines is setting the standard for connectivity in the skies.
