Veteran actor SATISH SHAH, known for his impeccable comic timing and memorable performances across television and cinema, passed away on 25 October 2025, aged 74, due to kidney-related complications.
A graduate of FTII, Pune, Shah became a household name with the iconic 1984 sitcom “YEH JO HAI ZINDAGI,” directed by KUNDAN SHAH and MANJUL SINHA, in which he remarkably portrayed 55 different characters in 55 episodes—a feat that remains unmatched in Indian television history.
In 1995, he delighted audiences once again as PRAKASH in Zee TV’s “FILMY CHAKKAR,” a 50-episode series opposite RATNA PATHAK SHAH, with whom he later reunited in the cult classic “SARABHAI VS SARABHAI” (2004) as the beloved INDRAVADHAN SARABHAI. Their on-screen chemistry became one of the most cherished duos in Indian television.
His versatile journey also included leading roles in “GHAR JAMAI” (1997) and “ALL THE BEST” alongside SWAROOP SAMPAT, spanning over 100 episodes on DD2. On the big screen, he is fondly remembered as Municipal Commissioner D’MELLO in the satirical masterpiece “JAANE BHI DO YAARO” (1984), directed by KUNDAN SHAH.
With a career spanning over 250 feature films, Satish Shah mastered the art of effortless humor and character depth. He also graced the judge’s panel on COMEDY CIRCUS, nurturing a new generation of comedians.
Fans fondly recall his quick wit, like the moment from “PICHA KARO” where, upon being introduced as MOTA CHETAN, he left audiences in splits—a testament to his eternal comic genius.
