Nithya Menen reacts to âPeddiâ controversy, says actors must set boundaries and assert themselves.
Actress Nithya Menen has responded to the ongoing Peddi controversy and the debate around whether Janhvi Kapoorâs character has been objectified in the film. While she clarified that she has not watched Peddi, she said she is strongly against the objectification of women in cinema. At the same time, she defended the South Indian film industry, noting that such issues are not limited to one region but exist across global film industries.
Speaking about the issue, Nithya said the root cause lies in the hyper-commercialisation of cinema, where filmmakers often prioritize what works commercially. She stressed that actors should have clear boundaries and the confidence to refuse scenes they are uncomfortable with. According to her, performers are not helpless and can assert themselves depending on their priorities and choices as artists.
She further added that actors must be clear about their stance from the beginning of their careers, as consistency in choices defines how they are perceived in the industry. Nithya also shared that she personally chooses roles based on her comfort and artistic values, even if it means missing out on certain opportunities or fame.
