Google just gave SEOs something we've been asking for since AI Overviews launched: a way to actually see our visibility inside them.
Search Console is now rolling out dedicated reporting for AI-powered Search - impressions from AI Overviews, AI Mode, and Discover, broken down by page, country, device, and date.
Until now, "are we showing up in AI search?" was answered with guesswork and third-party tools. Now there's a primary source, sitting inside the same dashboard we already check every day.
What's still missing:
โ No query or prompt-level data
โ No clicks or CTR - impressions only
โ AI Overviews and AI Mode are blended, not split out
So it's a visibility report, not yet a performance report. But that's still a real shift.
Here's the bigger story though: Google also quietly added a toggle letting sites opt out of AI features entirely - without it counting against normal search rankings. That tells you how seriously content owners are starting to weigh "do I want my content training/feeding AI answers" against "do I want the exposure."
For most businesses, staying in is still the smarter play - being cited inside an AI Overview is becoming its own form of authority signal, alongside your rank.
The takeaway for anyone doing SEO in 2026: ranking #1 is no longer the finish line. Being trusted enough to get pulled into the answer is the new one.
Rolling out gradually (UK first), so most accounts won't see it yet - but it's coming.
Has it shown up in your Search Console? Curious what you're seeing.
