Cheteshwar Pujara, India’s rock-solid No. 3 batter, has announced his retirement from all forms of Indian cricket at the age of 37. Making his debut in 2010, Pujara went on to play 103 Tests and 5 ODIs, scoring 7,195 Test runs at an average of 43.60 with 19 centuries and 35 half-centuries. Known for his patience, technique, and ability to grind out bowlers, he became India’s most reliable Test batsman for over a decade. His last appearance for India came in the World Test Championship final against Australia in June 2023, though he continued playing domestic cricket for Saurashtra and county cricket for Sussex.

Throughout his career, Pujara was at the heart of India’s biggest Test triumphs. From his epic 153 against South Africa in Johannesburg to his double century in Ranchi, he often stood tall in pressure situations. His defining legacy, however, came in India’s back-to-back Test series wins in Australia. In 2018-19, his three centuries powered India’s historic victory, while in 2020-21, his courageous batting against a hostile Australian attack epitomized resilience. With 21,301 first-class runs, 66 centuries, and a reputation for unmatched grit, Pujara leaves behind a golden legacy in Indian cricket.

Top platforms like Zupee, MPL, and Dream Sports have shut down their real-money gaming divisions after the Online Gaming Bill 2025 banned all money-based online games in India. The law aims to curb gambling and promote safer, free-to-play formats.

MPL suspended all paid games, while Zupee continues offering free games like Ludo. Dream Sports halted pay-to-play contests and is shifting focus to other ventures like DreamSetGo and FanCode.

The industry warns the ban could lead to massive job losses, investment flight, and tax revenue loss. Experts also fear it may drive users to unsafe, offshore gaming platforms.

India’s Supreme Court has reversed its earlier order to remove all stray dogs from Delhi streets, restoring the sterilise-vaccinate-release approach. Only rabid or aggressive dogs will be sent to shelters, and street feeding is restricted to designated areas.

The court emphasized a balanced approach to public safety and animal rights. Activists and leaders, including Maneka Gandhi and PETA, welcomed the verdict, calling it scientific and humane.

With nearly 1 million strays in Delhi, the court acknowledged that mass relocation wasn’t practical. The MCD now plans to ramp up sterilization and set up proper feeding zones.

Beloved American judge Frank Caprio, known worldwide for his compassion and kindness in the courtroom, passed away on Wednesday at the age of 88 after a prolonged battle with pancreatic cancer. His death was confirmed in a statement on his official Instagram page, which said he died peacefully and would be remembered as a respected judge, devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend.

Caprio rose to international fame through the TV series Caught in Providence, which showcased his empathetic handling of minor cases in Rhode Island’s Municipal Court. His warm, often viral courtroom moments earned him the title “America’s Nicest Judge” and even a Daytime Emmy nomination in 2021. He served as a municipal judge from 1985 until his retirement in 2023.

Just hours before his passing, Caprio shared a final video from his hospital bed, expressing gratitude and asking his followers to keep him in their prayers. He is survived by his wife Joyce, five children, seven grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.

In a notable diplomatic shift, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi declared during his visit to Delhi that India and China should regard each other as "partners" rather than adversaries or threats . His remarks underscore a renewed commitment to cooperation, especially significant given the fraught past—marked most starkly by deadly clashes in the Galwan Valley back in 2020.

The two countries are now reportedly on a "positive trend" toward cooperation, according to Wang . During his stay, he held high-level talks across various domains, ranging from trade and pilgrimages to river data sharing, and met with key Indian leaders including Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar and National Security Advisor Ajit Doval .

Crucially, Wang emphasized that border stability has been restored, calling the previous setbacks counterproductive and against the mutual interests of both nations . These developments—paired with agreements like the 2024 patrolling arrangements—suggest that this visit could mark the beginning of a more collaborative chapter between the two nuclear-armed neighbours.

In a decisive move, Ramanujan Senior Secondary School in Nagaon has reintroduced its ban on social media for students, prioritizing academic excellence over digital distractions. The school authorities stated that rising social media usage among students was significantly impacting their concentration, study patterns, and overall motivation.

The decision comes after repeated observations that excessive online activity was diverting students’ attention from their studies, resulting in a noticeable dip in academic performance. Teachers and parents had raised concerns about students spending more time on platforms like Instagram and Facebook instead of engaging in productive learning.

By reinforcing the ban, the school aims to create a disciplined learning environment where students can focus on personal growth and academic achievement. Authorities believe this step will help instill better time management habits and ensure that technology is used responsibly, without compromising educational priorities.

The Parliament has passed the new Income Tax Bill, 2025, replacing the 1961 Act with claims of simplifying tax rules. However, critics warn that the new law greatly expands the powers of tax authorities, especially in the domain of digital surveillance.

The most debated clause, Section 247, allows officials to search and seize not only physical assets but also digital records by breaking into computer systems, social media, cloud storage, and online banking or trading platforms. Advocates argue these are extensions of earlier powers under the 1961 Act, with digital passwords now treated like physical locks.

On August 15, 2025, Presidents Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin met in Anchorage, Alaska, for a summit on the Ukraine war. The meeting opened with grandeur—red carpets, military flyovers, and Trump’s arrival in “The Beast,” showcasing American power and spectacle.

Talks lasted nearly three hours but delivered no breakthrough. Both leaders called the discussions “productive” and “constructive,” yet reporters were blocked from questions, and no deal—especially on a ceasefire—was reached.

Putin invited Trump to Moscow, which he said was “possibly happening.” Still, NATO and Ukrainian officials saw the warm optics as hollow, diplomacy without tangible results.

Union Minister Jitendra Singh said the incident may result in substantial casualties, while efforts are underway to provide medical aid and relief to the affected.

The fatalities included a girl in Azizabad and a man named Stephen in Korangi. Police arrested over 20 suspects and recovered fi****ms, vowing strict action to curb such dangerous practices. The US national debt has hit a record $37 trillion, reaching the milestone years earlier than pre-pandemic forecasts. The surge is linked to massive borrowing during the Covid-19 pandemic under Presidents Trump and Biden, along with recent spending measures, including Republicans’ tax cut and spending package, projected to add $4.1 trillion over the next decade. Rising debt has fueled concerns over higher interest rates, reduced private investment, and increased costs for households.

Experts warn the pace is accelerating, with $1 trillion added every five months—twice as fast as the average over the past 25 years. The Government Accountability Office notes the impact could include costlier mortgages and goods, as well as lower wages. Fiscal analysts urge swift action, stressing that continued unchecked borrowing risks crowding out key budget priorities and creating a vicious cycle of debt and interest payments.
