Union Home Minister Amit Shah inaugurated a state-level exhibition on Rajasthan’s new criminal laws at Jaipur’s JECC, while also laying the foundation for investment projects worth ₹4 lakh crore.
Speaking at the event, Shah said the state’s conviction rate had risen from 42% to 60% within a year of implementing the new statutes – the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam, which came into force on 1 July 2024.
He described the legal overhaul as “the biggest reform of the 21st century” and said it would make India’s criminal justice system among the most modern in the world.
Shah highlighted features including separate chapters for crimes against women and children, provisions for e-FIR and Zero FIR, mandatory videography of seizures, compulsory forensic investigations for serious offences, and time-bound procedures.
The exhibition showcased demonstrations of how investigations and prosecutions will work under the new laws. Shah urged the state government to extend the exhibition so more people could attend.
On the development front, he presided over the ground-breaking of projects totalling ₹4 lakh crore, stemming from MoUs signed at last year’s Rising Rajasthan Global Investment Summit 2024.
He also inaugurated schemes including direct benefit transfers for students, milk subsidies for dairy producers, registration for a free electricity scheme, and vehicles for forensic labs.
Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma, Deputy Chief Ministers Diya Kumari and Prem Chand Bairwa, and Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan were present.
