Stunning Views of Migratory Birds at Siikhe Lake in Ziro Valley
Ziro, Arunachal Pradesh: The tranquil Siikhe Lake in Ziro Valley is once again drawing attention as migratory birds arrive in large numbers, turning the area into an important seasonal habitat.
With the onset of winter, several species including the green-tailed sunbird, Pacific golden plover, gray-headed bullfinch, grey-breasted prinia, sibia, mandarin duck, dancing wagtail, mallard, cinnamon bittern, Eurasian tree sparrow, and green-backed tit have been sighted at the lake.
Officials and local observers state that the birds begin their migration to Siikhe Lake in November, where they remain until April. During these months, the lake provides a suitable environment with food availability and safe resting spaces, making it an ideal stopover for the birds.
To protect this delicate ecosystem, the Ziro Bird Walk team and members of the Siikhe Lake management committee have stepped up conservation measures. Regular monitoring is being carried out, and specific zones have been created within the lake area. Notably, the upper section has been restricted exclusively for migratory birds to minimize human disturbance.
The presence of these birds has also boosted interest in eco-tourism, with visitors and bird enthusiasts visiting the lake to witness the seasonal phenomenon. Local stakeholders believe that continued conservation efforts will help preserve Siikhe Lake as a vital habitat for migratory species in the years to come.
