This is a beautiful temple built in the style of the Badami Chalukyas with red and black stones. According to some historians, this temple was built in the 11th century, while according to some historians, this temple was built in the 12th century. This temple has four doors in four directions. Here you can see two Nandi idols. While most temples have only one Nandi idol, only here there are two idols of Shiva's bull Nandi. This is also one of the temples that has a special four-faced Shivalinga.
900-year-old temple:
The Chandramouleshwara temple is one of the famous temples in North Karnataka India. It is about 900 years old.
It is protected and preserved by the Archaeological Survey of India as a monument of national importance under the Ancient Monuments and Archaeological Sites Act, 1958. This temple was built in a manner similar to the monuments of Pattadakallu, Aihole and Badami.
There is a mention in history that the sculptor Jakanachari built this temple in a single night. There are two lingas, two Nandi idols, and five sanctuaries. In the central sanctum, there is a Chaturmukha, or four-faced Shivalinga. Thus, we will see four doors in the central sanctum in four directions. All the doors are also intricately carved.
Each door has a pair of doorkeepers. There is a circumambulation path for circumambulation. The specialty of this place is the presence of antarala and a sarvathobhadra style mukhamantapa.

Now, at the entrance of the mukhamantapa (entrance), you will see musicians and jalandhars with carved stones. The intricate carvings on the outside have changed the look of the entire temple. There are a total of 12 doors here. There are beautiful carvings on all of them. The special thing is that there are two Nandi idols in the temple. It is traditional to have Nandi only in front of the entrance of the temple. But here there are Nandi idols on both sides of the entrance and mukhamantapa. There is a Chandramouleshwara Linga in the sanctum sanctorum. The special thing is that this Shivalinga has four faces.
The height of the temple is 20 feet, length is 55 feet and width is 40 feet. The entire temple is specially built with red and black granite stones. During the Ugadi festival, a grand puja is performed in this temple. On Shivaratri, innumerable devotees flock to see the sun's rays touch the Shivalinga in the early morning. It is believed by devotees that if one has a darshan of Chandramouleshwara during that time, their wishes will be fulfilled.
Historian Henry Cousens said that, The temple, which was very attractive, was destroyed after the 13th century. After that, this temple was not used for several years. Finally, this temple was taken over by the Lingayats (Indian community). There is a mention that the linga was moved to some extent.

The outer walls of the temple have niches made of pilasters. Here a constellation of Hindu deities and Hindu legends is depicted. Avatars of Brahma, Vishnu and various forms of Shiva can be seen here.
