He scored Indiaโs second ODI century when he made 102 runs against Australia in 1984. One time, held the world record for the highest opening partnership in ODI's with Kris Srikanth when they pair put on an 188-run stand against England in 1984. Known for his trademark โChapati Shot,โ he batted in no. 1โ10 positions for India. He also once held the first-class record for the fastest double century in terms of minutes batted when he scored unbeaten 200 runs in 113 minutes against Baroda playing for Bombay during the 1984โ85 Ranji season.
In addition, he is a 1983 World Cup winner and played a pivotal role in one of Indiaโs famous overseas triumphs in the 1980s when he won the Man of the Series award during the 1985 World Championship Cricket, which India won. When he eventually finished off his career, he managed to score 6938 international runs for India in addition to the 280 wickets. Even though he started off as a spinner, he later turned himself into a batting all-rounder. By his own admission, he ignored his bowling in favour of his batting.
