Named After Its Architect
Unlike most temples that are named after their deity or patron, this temple is named after its chief sculptor, Ramappa, who designed and constructed it under the reign of Kakatiya ruler Ganapati Deva (ruled 1199–1262 CE).
Floating Bricks
The temple’s lightweight bricks can float on water! These were used to reduce the weight of the structure while ensuring durability.
Earthquake-Resistant Foundation
The foundation was built using a sandbox technique, absorbing shocks from earthquakes and preventing structural damage.
Exquisite Sandstone Carvings
The temple is adorned with intricately carved pillars, walls, and ceilings depicting mythological stories, dancers, and deities.
Nandi Facing the Shivalinga
The temple has a majestic Nandi (sacred bull) that is placed in a manner where it appears to be looking straight at the Shivalinga inside the sanctum.
Kakatiya Style of Architecture
Built in the Kakatiya architectural style, it incorporates elements of Nagara (North Indian) and Dravidian (South Indian) styles.
