Pakistan, Iran Reaffirm Close Relations Ahead of President Pezeshkian’s Visit
News Desk | July 22, 2025

ISLAMABAD – In a show of growing diplomatic ties, Iranian Interior Minister Seyyed Eskandar Momeni spoke with Pakistan’s Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi via telephone on Monday to discuss the upcoming visit of Iranian President Dr. Masoud Pezeshkian.

President Pezeshkian is scheduled to arrive in Pakistan on July 26, marking his first official visit since taking office. Minister Naqvi expressed Pakistan’s enthusiasm for the visit, emphasizing its potential to further strengthen cooperation between the two brotherly Muslim nations.

The high-level discussion focused on enhancing bilateral relations and regional collaboration. Minister Naqvi highlighted that President Pezeshkian’s visit will provide a vital opportunity to boost joint efforts in diplomacy, security, and economic engagement.

Minister Momeni, in turn, appreciated Naqvi’s recent visit to Iran, calling it a meaningful step toward deeper ties. He also extended heartfelt condolences to the people of Pakistan over the recent devastating floods, expressing Iran’s readiness to support relief operations.

“The Iranian government and its people stand with Pakistan in this difficult time,” said Momeni, offering solidarity and assistance for flood victims.

The two ministers agreed that continued high-level exchanges are essential for long-term peace, stability, and partnership in the region.

Gold Prices in Pakistan Surge Following Global Market Upswing
Web Desk | July 21, 2025

Gold rates in Pakistan saw a notable increase on Monday, following bullish trends in the international market.

According to the All-Pakistan Gems and Jewellers Sarafa Association (APGJSA), the price of gold per tola jumped by Rs3,600, reaching Rs361,200 — one of the highest levels in recent weeks. Similarly, the price of 10 grams of gold climbed to Rs309,671 after a gain of Rs3,087.

This upward trend follows Friday’s increase, when gold rates surged by Rs2,500 per tola, closing at Rs357,600. The local bullion market remained closed on Saturday due to a traders’ protest over recent tax regulations.

International gold prices also saw significant movement, hitting $3,387 per ounce. APGJSA reported a $36 increase, including a $20 premium, reflecting renewed investor confidence amid global economic uncertainties.

In contrast, silver prices remained unchanged, with the per tola rate holding firm at Rs4,012.

14 Arrested in Quetta for Alleged Honour Killing Following Tribal Jirga Verdict

QUETTA – At least 14 individuals have been apprehended in connection with the brutal killing of a man and a woman in Quetta’s Digari area. The victims were reportedly executed on the directive of a tribal jirga just days before Eidul Azha, in what authorities are calling a so-called honour killing.

The disturbing video of the double murder, which surfaced online over the weekend, has triggered a wave of nationwide outrage. Balochistan Inspector General of Police, Moazzam Jah Ansari, confirmed that members of the woman’s own family — including her brother — were directly involved in the killings. The couple was accused of maintaining an extramarital relationship, which allegedly led to the jirga’s deadly ruling.

According to reports, the man and woman had entered into a love marriage. They were invited to a gathering under the guise of a family feast, only to be confronted with the jirga's decision and subsequently shot dead.

In a separate development, judicial authorities have ordered the exhumation of the bodies for a formal autopsy. Additionally, an anti-terrorism court has handed over tribal elder Sardar Sherbaz Satakzai to police custody on a two-day physical remand to assist in the investigation.

This incident has once again cast a spotlight on the role of tribal justice systems in Pakistan and the urgent need for legal reform to prevent such extrajudicial killings.
