**Hyderabad Scorches as Temperatures Soar to 40 Degrees Celsius**
Hyderabad, Telangana - February 16, 2025: The city of Hyderabad is experiencing an intense heatwave as temperatures soared to a scorching 40 degrees Celsius today, marking one of the hottest days of the year so far. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a heatwave alert for the region, urging residents to take necessary precautions to avoid heat-related illnesses.
The sudden spike in temperature has left many Hyderabadis struggling to cope, with the blazing sun making outdoor activities nearly unbearable. Local authorities have advised people to stay indoors during peak afternoon hours, stay hydrated, and avoid direct exposure to the sun.
"This is unusual for February. We typically expect such high temperatures in April or May, but this early heatwave is concerning," said a senior IMD official. The department has attributed the rising temperatures to a combination of factors, including clear skies, dry winds, and the absence of rain.
Hospitals in the city have reported an increase in cases of heat exhaustion and dehydration, particularly among the elderly and children. Doctors are advising residents to drink plenty of water, wear light clothing, and use umbrellas or hats when venturing outside.
The Telangana government has also taken steps to mitigate the impact of the heatwave. Drinking water stations have been set up across the city, and authorities are ensuring uninterrupted power supply to help residents use cooling appliances. Additionally, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has opened cooling centers in various neighborhoods to provide relief to those without access to air conditioning.
Meanwhile, the soaring temperatures have also affected daily life, with many outdoor workers, including street vendors and construction laborers, facing difficulties. "Working under the sun for hours is exhausting. We have to take frequent breaks to avoid falling ill," said Ramesh, a construction worker in the city.
As the heatwave continues, residents are hopeful for some respite in the coming days. The IMD has predicted a slight drop in temperatures by the end of the week, but until then, Hyderabadis are bracing themselves for more sweltering days ahead.
