Delhi is taking a major step towards cleaner and greener streets.
The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has begun deploying 1,000 battery-operated vacuum litter pickers under a ₹1,487 crore cleanliness project approved earlier this year. These zero-emission machines are designed to collect small waste items such as plastic bottles, cigarette butts, paper scraps, and other litter from markets, footpaths, and public spaces.
Officials say the initiative will reduce dependence on manual sweeping, lower dust pollution, and make sanitation work safer and more efficient. While many residents have welcomed the move, some have raised concerns about worker safety in busy traffic areas and stressed the need for stricter anti-littering enforcement.
Will these smart cleaning machines transform Delhi's streets?
