YouTuber and political commentator Ajeet Bharti has become the centre of a major social media debate after Delhi Police registered an FIR against him over alleged objectionable remarks about Nagina MP Chandra Shekhar Aazad and Dr B.R. Ambedkar.

The complaint was filed by Balakram Bauddh of the Azad Samaj Party.

What Is The FIR About?

According to reports, the complaint alleges that Bharti made caste-based, abusive and insulting remarks through his digital platform. It also alleges that some of the comments were sexually degrading.

The FIR was registered at North Avenue Police Station in Delhi under provisions of the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. It is important to note that these are allegations, and the case is still under investigation.

Reservation Protest Adds To The Controversy

The FIR came soon after Bharti took part in the Reservation Reform Andolan at Jantar Mantar.

The protesters demanded changes in India’s reservation system, including more focus on economic conditions and a review of existing reservation policies. Police detained several protesters during the demonstration.

Ajeet Bharti Hits Back

Bharti has strongly opposed the FIR and questioned the case against him.

According to India Today, he called the FIR “pressure-driven” and claimed that it would not stand in court. His supporters have also raised questions about whether the law is being applied equally to everyone.

Tehseen Poonawalla Supports Bharti

Political analyst Tehseen Poonawalla has also spoken in support of Bharti.

Poonawalla said that people can disagree with Bharti on many issues, but they should still stand with him when they feel his freedom of expression is under pressure. He also questioned what he believes are double standards in how different protesters are treated and criticised the FIR.

Who Is Tehseen Poonawalla?

Tehseen Poonawalla is a political analyst, entrepreneur, columnist and civil-rights activist who regularly speaks on national political issues.

He was also a wildcard contestant on Bigg Boss 13. Poonawalla has publicly supported Congress views at different times, while also criticising the party on several issues.

A Bigger Debate

The Ajeet Bharti FIR has now started a wider discussion on free speech, caste-related laws, reservation policies and whether laws are being applied equally.

The case is still developing, and the allegations against Bharti have not been established in court.

A large protest was held at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar on August 21, where people demanded changes in India’s caste-based reservation system and raised objections to the UGC equity regulations. Different groups took part in the protest, with some people demanding that a person’s economic condition should also be considered while giving reservation benefits.

During the protest, a young man who identified himself as a Dalit spoke to reporters about his views on reservation. He said he is from Basti district in Uttar Pradesh and works as an artist. Despite belonging to the Dalit community, he said that he does not support the current reservation system.

The young man said people from Brahmin and Rajput communities had supported him at different stages of his life. He also shared that he has several Brahmin and Rajput women whom he considers his sisters, and they tie Rakhi to him. He said his personal relationships have shown him that people can share strong bonds beyond caste identities.

He also spoke about the UGC controversy and said he would stand by and protect the women he considers his sisters. He raised concerns about their safety and questioned who would take responsibility if they faced harassment or other problems in the future.

These comments were his personal views and reflected his own experience. The protest itself included people with different demands, including changes to the reservation system and opposition to the UGC equity regulations and the SC/ST Act. Heavy security was present at the protest site, and police later moved protesters away from the area.

The young man’s comments have added another personal viewpoint to the ongoing debate around caste, equality, reservation and affirmative action in India.
