Empowering Rural Women Through Entrepreneurship | Udyami Panjikaran Mela โ€“ Sagalee

On 27th June 2025, ArSRLM organized the Udyami Panjikaran Mela at Nyokum Ground, Sagalee with the goal of empowering SHG members and their families through entrepreneurial registration. The event aimed to formalize their businesses, enabling access to government schemes, financial services, and wider markets.

The program saw participation from key dignitaries including ADC Smti. Higio Yame, EAC Shri Aying Perme, Handicrafts Development Officer Shri Nich Raju, Er. Tatar Mosi, PM (Proc), ArSRLM, APRB Manager Shri Nani Chada, AE PR Er. Takam Taniang, Citizen Foundation PM Shri J***y Kandulna, and SBI official Shri Rahul Shetty.

A total of 87 SHG members from Mete Dene, Parte Dene, and Swgbo Cluster Level Federations were successfully registered during the event. Speakers encouraged women to engage in livelihood activities, maintain good banking practices, and address social issues such as drug abuse. An animal health camp cm vaccination drive were held today at Khemlee village in the Sagalee sub-division. The program was organized by Mete Dene MPCS Ltd. (facilitated by BMMU Sagalee, ArSRLM) in collaboration with the Department of Animal Husbandry, Veterinary, and Dairy Development, Sagalee.
Dr. T. R. Nabam Hina, a senior veterinary officer, served as the resource person for the event. The day-long training program and vaccination drive were attended by Livelihood Community Resource Persons (CRPs) from Toru, Parang, Leporiang, and Sagalee circles, as well as the general public of Khemlee village and members of Mete Dene MPCS Ltd.
In total, over 20 cattle owners vaccinated their cows and Mithun, and more than 40 participants attended the training program.
During the session, Dr. T.R. Hina emphasized the importance of de-worming, vaccination, feed management, market value, disease cycles, their prevalence, and precautions for pig and poultry farming. He also highlighted the significance of ear tagging for cattle. Furthermore, Dr. Hina raised awareness about the importance of maintaining cleanliness in meat shops.
Certificates of participation were provided to all the Livelihood Community Resource Persons (LH-CRPs) participants at the end of the event.

As part of the Nayi Chetna 3.0- an annual gender campaign by NRLM, a successful mass rally took place in Kheel Village on December 20, 2024. The event was organized by the Parte Dene Multi-Purpose Cooperative Society Ltd. (PDMPCS). The rally attracted a remarkable turnout of more than 260 participants from Self-Help Groups (SHGs). The primary aim of the rally was to raise awareness about various forms of gender-based violence, encouraging communities to speak out and demand action and to act decisively against the any form of violence.
The rally began with a mass gender pledge, followed by a foot march from the Kheel IB to the Geram market and back to Kheel IB. The program was graced by Ms. Fema Taku, Circle Officer (CO), Toru Circle as a resource person, along with Shri Tana Tedi, a former PRI leader, as a special invitee.
During the event, Ms. Taku interacts with SHG members, emphasizing the importance of womenโ€™s rights laws and the different types of gender-based violence. She urged families and communities to teach children essential life skills, regardless of their gender. Ms. Taku also stressed that empowerment involves not only holding positions of authority but also advocating for oneโ€™s rights and participating in decision-making processes. She encouraged women to utilize legal protections when necessary, ensuring that these laws are regarded as tools for justice rather than means for misuse.
Shri Tana Tedi, the special invitee, reinforced this message by encouraging women to take responsibility for their safety and to avoid situations that could lead to challenges. He inspired women to focus on self-empowerment concerning their livelihoods and social contributions. Additionally, Shri Tar Tarin, Block Mission Manager, BMMU Sagalee Arsrlm shared valuable insights into the overall achievements of BMMU Sagalee ArSRLM and outlined the objectives and impact of the Nayi Chetna gender campaign in the block.

Nayi Chetna 3.0 (National Gender Campaign) is currently underway in the Sagalee block, where over 200 Self-Help Groups (SHGs) have taken a pledge to promote gender equality. Various initiatives, such as murals in public spaces and gender-focused rallies, are being organized by the SHG Federations (PLF/CLF).

Since its launch in 2022, SHG mothers in Sagalee have actively participated in the Nayi Chetna gender campaign. They have organized a range of activities, including film screenings, essay competitions, slogan contests, and social actions etc.

"Nayi Chetna - Pahal Badlav Ki" aims to eradicate violence against women and promote the rights of women and gender-diverse individuals. The campaign was launched by the Ministry of Rural Development on November 25, in recognition of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women. It is led by the Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana - National Rural Livelihoods Mission (DAY-NRLM) and is being implemented in all states under this mission.
