Home Minister Mama Natung Chairs High-Level Meeting on Illegal Migration and Land Encroachment Issues
Itanagar, July 8: In a significant move to address long-standing concerns related to illegal migration and land encroachment, Arunachal Pradesh Home Minister Mama Natung chaired a high-level meeting today in Itanagar. The meeting focused on issues concerning the deportation of illegal immigrants, land encroachment by Chakma-Hajong settlers, and the revision of the state's electoral rolls.
The meeting was attended by Advisor to Home Minister Mutchu Mithi, Chief Secretary Manish Kumar Gupta, senior officials from the Department of Home and Political Affairs, ADGP, IGP, Additional PCCF, and Deputy Commissioners and Divisional Forest Officers from Changlang, Lohit, Namsai, and Papum Pare districts. Representatives from the All Arunachal Pradesh Students’ Union (AAPSU) were also present.
During the deliberations, AAPSU reiterated its longstanding demands for stricter measures to protect the rights of indigenous communities, including the removal of illegal settlers and the safeguarding of community land.
Responding to the concerns raised, Home Minister Mama Natung assured AAPSU and other stakeholders that the state government remains committed to safeguarding the rights and interests of Arunachal’s indigenous people. He affirmed that a clear and effective policy framework is being developed to address the complex issues of illegal migration, land encroachment, and electoral anomalies.
“The government is resolute in its approach and will take all necessary steps to protect the identity, resources, and constitutional rights of the indigenous communities of Arunachal Pradesh,” Minister Natung stated.
The meeting concluded with assurances of coordinated action, enhanced surveillance, and further stakeholder consultations to ensure long-term solutions rooted in legal and constitutional safeguards.
