Tragic Bus Accident in Lakhimpur: One Dead, Over 45 Injured

Lakhimpur, Assam | A tragic road accident occurred at Naoboicha in Lakhimpur during the early hours of Saturday after a night bus travelling from Guwahati to Majuli overturned on the highway.

The passenger bus bearing registration number AR-01 W-1144 reportedly lost control and met with the accident while heading towards Majuli. A young businessman from Majuli, identified as Dipjyoti Bora, died in the incident.

More than 45 passengers were injured in the accident, with several reported to be in critical condition. The injured have been shifted to nearby hospitals for treatment.

Police and local residents rushed to the spot and launched rescue operations. The exact cause of the accident is yet to be ascertained.

APIYO GS TAPOR MAYING CLAIMS GUMIN MIZE ACTED IN SELF-DEFENCE

ITANAGAR: APIYO GS Tapor Mayaing has defended Gumin Mize in connection with the recent firing incident reported from Sesa Rajgarh in Assamโ€™s Lakhimpur district.

Addressing the media, Mayaing claimed that all allegations against Gumin Mize are false and stated that Mize fired his licensed revolver strictly in self-defence during the incident. He also appealed to the public not to spread misinformation regarding the case.

Gumin Mize was recently arrested by Assam Police in connection with the incident and has been remanded to judicial custody.

Itanagar, May 20: Members of Team APIYO along with corporator Gora Lotak visited the local cremation ground and facilitated the opening of the electric cremation facility gate through coordination with the concerned department.

The gate had reportedly remained locked since construction due to a non-functional electric cremation machine, causing inconvenience to the public during last rites.

During the visit, Team APIYO also demanded withdrawal of the FIR filed against Ramesh Jekke. The team said the issue should be resolved in the interest of the public and appealed to authorities for necessary action.

ITANAGAR, May 15: The 36-hour bandh called by the Arunachal ST Bachao Andolan Committee entered its second day on Thursday, with protesters intensifying their agitation and demanding the immediate release and physical presence of detained leaders of the organization.

The bandh was called in protest against alleged loopholes and irregularities in the Inner Line Permit (ILP) system. The organization has been demanding stricter implementation of the ILP mechanism, proper checking of illegal immigrants entering the state, and stronger protection of indigenous tribal rights and identity in Arunachal Pradesh.
