ITANAGAR: The Arunachal Pradesh Cabinet has approved the recommendations of the High Power Committee (HPC) regarding eligibility criteria for recruitment to government jobs in the state.

As per the approved recommendations, possession of a valid APST and PRC certificate, along with proficiency in the local dialect, will be mandatory for candidates applying for government jobs in Arunachal Pradesh.

The decision is aimed at ensuring that government employment opportunities are appropriately aligned with the interests of indigenous residents of the state and strengthening the role of local eligibility criteria in government recruitment.

The detailed implementation guidelines and modalities are expected to be notified by the competent authority.

Itanagar, August 12: The All Abotani Students’ Union (AASU) has taken cognizance of the prevailing tension arising from the Assam-Arunachal Pradesh inter-state border dispute following the recent incident at Hime village under Kangku Circle in Likabali and appealed to all stakeholders to maintain peace and tranquillity.

The appeal comes amid an economic blockade reportedly imposed by the Missing community in various parts of Assam, affecting transportation and movement between Assam and Arunachal Pradesh.

AASU President Apa Madu Donik appealed to both sides to exercise restraint and work towards restoring normalcy through dialogue and peaceful discussions.

Donik said proper dialogue and discussion could pave the way for peace and an amicable solution, while violence would never lead to any productive outcome.

He further highlighted the close historical and cultural relationship between the two communities, stating that the Missing community of Assam and the Galo community of Arunachal Pradesh are both descendants of Abotani.

“Fighting between two brothers is unwelcoming,” Donik said, appealing to both communities to uphold their fraternal relationship and refrain from actions that could further escalate the situation.

The AASU President also urged the concerned authorities to intervene and facilitate meaningful dialogue between the stakeholders to find a concrete and lasting solution to the Assam-Arunachal border dispute.

He stressed that a permanent resolution to the boundary issue was essential to prevent recurring tensions and ensure lasting peace, harmony and normalcy along the inter-state border.

UAPF Holds ‘Save Arunachal – People’s Rights Rally’ in Itanagar

Itanagar, August 3: The United Arunachal People's Forum (UAPF) on Monday organized its "Save Arunachal – People's Rights Rally" in Itanagar, drawing participation from citizens and supporters from different areas of the state.

The rally began from Akashdeep and proceeded towards I.G. Park, where participants gathered to raise several public issues and submit their demands to the concerned authorities.

Among the key demands highlighted during the rally were the proposed scrapping of the smart prepaid electricity meter system, provision of 1,000 units of free electricity for domestic consumers, resolution of forest boundary-related concerns, and an independent inquiry into the alleged misuse of funds in the Dari–Chambang Road project.

Addressing the gathering, UAPF representatives said the rally was aimed at safeguarding the rights and interests of the people of Arunachal Pradesh. They urged the government to take the concerns seriously and initiate appropriate action on the issues raised.

The rally concluded peacefully at I.G. Park, with participants reiterating their commitment to continue advocating for transparency, accountability, and the protection of public rights in the state.

AATSU Appoints Nguri Merry as Women Wing President for 2026–2029

Itanagar, July 31, 2026: The All Abotani Students’ Union (AATSU) has appointed Miss Nguri Merry, daughter of Nguri Tayum, as the President of the Women Wing of AATSU for the session 2026–2029.

According to the appointment order issued by AATSU President Apa Madu Donik, the appointment has been made in exercise of the powers conferred under the Constitution of the All Abotani Students’ Union.

The order directs Nguri Merry to assume office with immediate effect. Copies of the appointment order have been forwarded to the AATSU Vice President for information, Nguri Merry for compliance, and the union office for record.

The appointment reflects AATSU’s continued efforts to strengthen the participation and leadership of women within the student organisation.

DC Chairs Meeting on ILP & ST Issues; Assures Strict Enforcement, Appeals for Public Cooperation

Itanagar, July 28: Deputy Commissioner of Capital Itanagar, Toko Babu, on Tuesday addressed the media following a high-level meeting on issues related to the Inner Line Permit (ILP) and Scheduled Tribe (ST) matters in the Itanagar Capital Region.

Speaking to the media, the DC said the meeting was convened to review concerns surrounding ILP implementation and the protection of ST rights. Representatives from the Itanagar Municipal Corporation (IMC), district administration, police, and the Arunachal Pradesh ST Bachao Andolan Committee (ASBAC) participated in the discussion.

The Deputy Commissioner stated that all stakeholders shared their views and emphasized the need for coordinated action to ensure effective implementation of ILP regulations while safeguarding the interests of indigenous communities. He also appealed to the public to cooperate with the administration in maintaining law and order and ensuring strict compliance with the existing legal provisions.

The administration assured that the concerns raised during the meeting would be examined seriously and that appropriate measures would be taken in accordance with the law.

Youth for Change Organises Candlelight March in Itanagar Over NEET Paper Leak Issue

Itanagar, July 26: Youth for Change organised a candlelight march from Tennis Court to IG Park in Itanagar on Sunday evening to express solidarity with students affected by the alleged NEET paper leak issue.

The march was held to protest the alleged brutal assault on students by Delhi Police during a demonstration at Jantar Mantar demanding justice over the NEET paper leak. Participants also paid tribute to students who allegedly died by su***de following the controversy surrounding the examination.

Carrying candles, participants called for a fair and transparent investigation into the alleged irregularities and demanded accountability from the authorities. They urged the government to ensure justice for the affected students and to safeguard the future of aspiring candidates.
