After a man reportedly asked her if she was Chinese, she responded emotionally: “Hum log India hain. I feel very sad and angry when people call us Chinese. We are Indians, don’t call us Chinese.”

Her words highlight the hurt and frustration caused by racial stereotyping and remind us that India’s diversity is its strength. People from the Northeast are an integral part of India, and no one should be judged or labelled based on their appearance.

Tawang Scholar Namgyal Lhamo Dolma Secures Scholarship to Carnegie Mellon University 🎓

Namgyal Lhamo Dolma, a young scholar from Tawang, Arunachal Pradesh, has secured a scholarship to pursue advanced studies at Carnegie Mellon University (CMU) in the United States.

An alumna of IIT Kanpur, Namgyal will join CMU’s Master of Science in Public Policy and Data Analytics programme, combining her background in economics with data science and public policy.

Her academic journey includes research experience with the National University of Singapore and the University of Alberta, while her work on food security in India was presented at an international conference in Bangkok. She was also selected for a summer research programme at the University of Cologne in Germany.

Namgyal had also received admission offers from the London School of Economics and Columbia University before choosing Carnegie Mellon University.

Her achievement marks another encouraging milestone for young scholars from Arunachal Pradesh and the wider Northeast on the global academic stage. 🌏

Kiren Rijiju Rejects 60-Km China Incursion Claim

NEW DELHI | 19 AUGUST 2026: Union Minister Kiren Rijiju has rejected reports claiming that Chinese forces have made a 60-km incursion into Arunachal Pradesh, calling the claim incorrect.

Rijiju said there is a genuine border issue in parts of Arunachal Pradesh, but attributed the situation to the fact that the India-China boundary has not been clearly delineated on the ground. He acknowledged that concerns raised by villagers living in frontier areas are valid and should be taken seriously.

At the same time, the Union Minister cautioned against spreading unverified videos, photographs and claims suggesting that Chinese troops have entered deep inside Indian territory. He said such misinformation can create confusion and affect the morale of security personnel.

Rijiju also said that Indian security forces have strengthened patrolling in the region and that the government remains committed to protecting India’s territorial interests.

The minister’s remarks come amid renewed attention on border-related developments in Upper Subansiri and other frontier areas of Arunachal Pradesh.

An alleged incident involving an IMC garbage collection vehicle has been reported from ESS Sector, Itanagar, where a garbage truck lifter was reportedly assaulted and the driver allegedly threatened during a dispute over waste disposal.

The incident has raised concerns over the safety of municipal sanitation workers who are engaged in maintaining cleanliness across the capital city.

Authorities are urged to verify the allegations, conduct a fair investigation and take appropriate action based on the findings. Any obstruction or misconduct against workers performing official duties should be dealt with as per applicable laws and municipal regulations.

AAPSU Demands Strict ILP Verification During SIR

TEZU | 19 AUG 2026: The All Arunachal Pradesh Students’ Union (AAPSU) has reiterated its strong stand on safeguarding the constitutional, indigenous and electoral rights of Arunachal Pradesh, calling for strict verification of Inner Line Permit (ILP) status during the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process.

Nambom Gandhi, Vice President (Protocol) and Chairman of the SIR Committee, AAPSU, asserted the union’s position, stating: “No ILP, No Voter Rights in Arunachal Pradesh.”

AAPSU maintained that proper verification is essential to ensure that electoral rolls remain accurate and that the rights and interests of the state’s indigenous communities are protected.
