On August 21, Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi accompanied 19-year-old student Sahil Lochab to Delhi’s Parliament Street Police Station, seeking registration of an FIR over injuries allegedly suffered during the July 20 student protest in Delhi. Gandhi then staged a sit-in, saying he would not leave until the complaint was registered.

Later that day, Delhi Police registered an FIR on Lochab’s complaint. Reports said the FIR did not name any individual as an accused at that stage.

The episode has now raised a bigger question: when allegations of excessive force are made during a protest, how quickly and transparently should the authorities investigate them?

🚨 McDonald’s outlet in Mumbai’s Colaba faces FDA action

Maharashtra FDA has suspended the FSSAI licence of a McDonald’s outlet in Colaba after a re-inspection found 18 of 20 earlier deficiencies still unresolved.

Officials reported live cockroaches, uncalibrated refrigeration equipment, rotting food waste and hygiene lapses involving staff handling ready-to-eat food. The action came as part of a wider Maharashtra food-safety crackdown in which 89 eateries were inspected and 13 licences were suspended.

The FDA has also questioned the outlet’s earlier compliance report, which claimed the deficiencies had been fixed.
