J&K Bank expands Corporate Salary Package outreach through eight new partnerships

Further strengthening its corporate and institutional outreach, J&K Bank has entered into Corporate Salary Package (CSP) agreements with eight valued clients across Jammu, Punjab and Chandigarh.

The agreements have been signed last week with Avisoft; The New Gandhi Memorial Educational Society (The Asian School), Miran Sahib, Jammu; Samrat Forgings; Pioneer Industries, Pathankot; Gullu Group—comprising Gullu Exclusive International Weaves Private Limited, Shikha Textiles and Rishab Textiles; Riddhi Siddhi Warehousing Corporation; Bittu Soft Drinks; and Gurjeet Labour Contractors.

The partnerships will bring a confirmed combined workforce of more than 1,500 employees and workers into the Bank’s salary-banking fold, with the overall coverage expected to be higher. Under the agreements, eligible employees will have access to customised salary accounts, convenient digital-banking services and a range of retail financial products, including personal and consumer loans, insurance and credit cards.

Through such partnerships, the Bank is steadily deepening its engagement with diverse segments of the salaried workforce in the private sector. By bringing employees and workers within the formal banking fold and providing them access to appropriate savings, protection and credit solutions, the Bank aims to support their evolving financial aspirations and enable their upward economic mobility.

Besides providing employees with convenient, technology-enabled and customer-centric banking services, the tie-ups will support salary-account acquisition, CASA mobilisation and cross-selling of relevant financial products. The agreements mark another significant step in expanding the Bank’s salary-banking portfolio and building enduring relationships with prominent corporate and educational institutions across its operational geographies.

CM Omar Abdullah inaugurates renovated J&K House at Amritsar

Upgraded facility to provide affordable and comfortable accommodation to J&K residents

AMRITSAR (PUNJAB), SEPTEMBER 17
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah today inaugurated the renovated Jammu & Kashmir House at Amritsar, Punjab.

The heritage property, located at 2-Court Road, Amritsar has been comprehensively upgraded with modern amenities to provide affordable and comfortable accommodation to residents of Jammu and Kashmir visiting Amritsar, particularly patients and their attendants travelling to the city for medical treatment.

The renovation and upgradation works commenced in October 2025 and were completed at an approximate cost of ₹2.30 crore. The works covered civil and electrical works, interiors, guest amenities, external development and allied infrastructure.

The upgraded facility comprises four guest rooms with attached dressing areas and washrooms, besides a common sitting lounge, dining area and kitchen.

Located close to major hospitals and other key destinations in the city, the J&K House will serve as an important support facility for patients and their attendants, besides benefiting students, pilgrims and other visitors from Jammu and Kashmir.

The Chief Minister inspected the upgraded facilities and directed the concerned officers to maintain high standards of hospitality, cleanliness and upkeep for guests.

Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister said the facility would help ease the difficulties faced by patients and their families travelling outside Jammu and Kashmir for treatment, while also providing a convenient and affordable place to stay for other visitors from J&K.

The Chief Minister appreciated the efforts of the departments and officers involved in the renovation and upgradation of the property and stressed the importance of maintaining the facility to high standards.

The Chief Minister was accompanied by his Advisor Nasir Aslam Wani, Additional Chief Secretary to the Chief Minister Dheeraj Gupta, Resident Commissioner J&K Ramesh Kumar, Secretary Hospitality & Protocol Avny Lavasa, Additional Resident Commissioner Anil Sharma and senior officers of Government of J&K and Government of Punjab.

JMC Launches ‘Swachhata Hi Seva 2026’ at PSPS GCW Gandhi Nagar, Commissioner Unveils Fortnight-Long Action Plan

JAMMU, SEPTEMBER 17
The Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) today launched the ‘Swachhata Hi Seva (SHS) 2026’ campaign at Padma Shri Padma Sachdev Government College for Women (PSPS GCW), Gandhi Nagar, Jammu, ushering in a fortnight of intensified cleanliness drives, citizen participation and awareness activities across the city.
Being organised under the national theme “Swachhata Mein Sahbhag, Swachh Bharat, Viksit Bharat” and the local call to action “Collective Action for Visible Impact,” the campaign will continue up to October 2, Swachh Bharat Diwas, with a focus on community participation, behavioural change and visible improvement of public spaces.
The campaign was formally inaugurated by Dr. Devansh Yadav, Commissioner, JMC, with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp in the presence of Prof. (Dr.) Kulvinder Kour, Principal, PSPS GCW, Joint Commissioner (Health & Sanitation), Health Officer, senior sanitation officers, faculty members and a large gathering of students.
The inaugural programme featured a blend of awareness, technical and cultural activities designed to sensitise and engage young citizens in urban cleanliness. A documentary showcasing JMC’s solid waste management initiatives and field operations across Jammu city was screened, followed by a technical presentation on the key provisions of the Solid Waste Management Rules, 2026, with emphasis on four-way source segregation at household and institutional levels.
Students further conveyed the message of cleanliness and civic responsibility through a Nukkad Natak highlighting behavioural change, responsible waste disposal and the importance of litter-free surroundings. A thematic dance performance focusing on ecological harmony and civic responsibility also formed part of the programme.
A major highlight of the event was the unveiling of the Swachhata Hi Seva 2026 Activity Calendar by Dr. Devansh Yadav. The calendar outlines a series of targeted interventions and citizen-centric activities to be undertaken across Jammu during the fortnight.
As part of the campaign, JMC will undertake focused interventions for the transformation and beautification of identified Cleanliness Target Units (CTUs) and Garbage Vulnerable Points (GVPs). The campaign will also include cleanliness drives at public places, Sports for Swachhata activities incorporating zero-waste practices, post-event clean-up drives, dedicated SafaiMitra Suraksha Camps, and special sanitation initiatives at heritage and pilgrimage sites in connection with World Tourism Day on September 27.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. Devansh Yadav appreciated the college administration and students for their enthusiastic participation and stressed that sustainable improvements in urban cleanliness can be achieved only through collective responsibility, behavioural change and sustained public participation.
He called upon citizens, particularly the youth, to become active partners in JMC’s cleanliness initiatives by practising responsible waste management, ensuring proper source segregation and refraining from littering. He urged the students to become “Ambassadors of Cleanliness”, take ownership of their surroundings and inspire others to adopt responsible civic practices.
The programme concluded with officers, faculty members and students taking the Swachhata Pledge, reaffirming their commitment to a clean, green and garbage-free Jammu.

Lieutenant Governor Celebrates Hon'ble PM Shri Narendra Modi's Birthday with Children at Srinagar’s ‘Palaash’ and ‘Pareesha’ Homes

SRINAGAR, SEPTEMBER 17
The Lieutenant Governor, Shri Manoj Sinha today celebrated the birthday of Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi with the children of the ‘Palaash’ and ‘Pareesha’ children’s homes in Srinagar. He distributed school bags, sports kits, and sweets, and also reviewed the residential facilities provided to ensure their well-being. Subsequently, he visited the Children’s Hospital at Bemina to spend time with the young patients and wish them a full and speedy recovery.

It is pertinent to mention that the ‘Seva Sankalp Abhiyan’ begins today, marking a month-long festival of selfless service till 17th October. This campaign celebrates 25 years of the Hon’ble Prime Minister's public service, transforming India from the “Fragile Five” to the world’s top five economies.

Over the next month, 12 programmes will include school competitions on ‘Mere Sapno ka Bharat’, honouring Anganwadi and ASHA workers, tree plantation, youth activities, and registration camps under Seva Setu Abhiyan.

“Until 17 October, a “Seva Setu Abhiyan” will be run at block and ward level, with 3–4 day camps to register deprived beneficiaries for government schemes. I earnestly appeal that every citizen of Jammu Kashmir participates wholeheartedly in this campaign.

Hon’ble Prime Minister has worked day and night for 140 crore countrymen and has helped build a new, powerful Jammu Kashmir. The GDP growth rate for the first quarter of 2026–27 is 7.8%. If we look at other indicators of welfare and development, 25 crore people have moved above the poverty line and 80 crore people are receiving free ration under the Garib Kalyan Ann Yojana,” the Lieutenant Governor said.

He also highlighted the unprecedented growth of National Highways, which have increased from 91,000 km to 146,000 km, and the number of airports has risen from 74 to 165.

“Kashmir is now directly connected with the rail network. Discrimination has been eliminated and the UT is witnessing historic transformation. As far as the welfare schemes across the country are concerned, 11 crore toilets, more than 10 crore gas connections and 4 crore PM Awas have been provided, and another 3 crore houses are under construction. Under Hon’ble Prime Minister’s guidance Jammu Kashmir will emerge as an unparalleled example of prosperity and happiness. I urge all citizens of Jammu Kashmir to contribute to this Service Campaign,” Lieutenant Governor said.

Historic three-day Sankri Devta mela concludes at Panchari

Over 50,000 devotees, visitors participate in revered festival

UDHAMPUR, SEPTEMBER 10
The three-day historic Sankri Devta mela, which commenced on September 8, 2026 here at Block Panchari, concluded successfully today with an overwhelming participation of more than 50,000 devotees and visitors.

Pilgrims from across the Union Territory thronged the mela venue to pay obeisance at the revered Sankri Devta Temple and seek the divine blessings of the deity.

The concluding ceremony was attended by Deputy Commissioner Udhampur Minga Sherpa, SSP Amritpal Singh, PO Poshan Subash Dogra, Mela Officer and Tehsildar Panchari, Vipan Kumar, besides former PRI members, prominent citizens and a large number of local residents.

The dignitaries paid obeisance at the holy shrine of Sankri Devta and prayed for peace, prosperity and the well-being of the people.

Addressing the gathering, the Deputy Commissioner congratulated the people of Panchari and the mela committee for the successful conduct of the traditional event. He emphasized that such melas play a vital role in preserving the region’s rich cultural heritage, strengthening social bonds and fostering a spirit of brotherhood, harmony and mutual understanding.

The DC stressed the importance of preserving and promoting the rich traditions and cultural legacy of the region, describing such traditional fairs as an integral part of the local heritage.

Later, the Deputy Commissioner took a detailed round of the mela venue and inspected the departmental stalls established to create awareness among the public about government schemes, programmes and services.

During the interaction, former PRI members and local residents put forth various issues and demands concerning the area. The DC gave a patient hearing to their concerns and assured redress of all genuine issues on priority.

The district administration had made elaborate arrangements for security, drinking water, uninterrupted power supply, healthcare facilities, sanitation, traffic regulation and other essential services to ensure the smooth and successful conduct of the mela.

Adding to the festive spirit, renowned artists, local performers, students from various educational institutions and folk artists from adjoining areas presented traditional cultural performances and theme-based skits.

The performances were highly appreciated and drew enthusiastic applause from the audience.

Various departmental stalls, along with stalls selling sweets, toys and food items set up by local and outside vendors, remained major attractions for devotees and visitors throughout the mela.

Dr Pushpendra Singh Bhati sworn in as Chief Justice of J&K, Ladakh High Court

SRINAGAR, SEPTEMBER 9
Dr. Justice Pushpendra Singh Bhati was sworn in as the 39th Chief Justice of the High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh at a solemn function held at SKUAST, Srinagar, on Wednesday.

The oath of office was administered to Dr. Justice Bhati by Vinai Kumar Saxena, Lieutenant Governor of UT of Ladakh with additional charge of UT of Jammu & Kashmir. The proceedings were conducted by Shashanka Ala, Secretary to Lieutenant Governor, UT of Ladakh, while the Warrant of Appointment of the Chief Justice was read out by M. K. Sharma, Registrar General, High Court of J&K and Ladakh.

The occasion was graced by the Chief Minister of the UT of J&K, Judges of the High Court of J&K and Ladakh along with their spouses, Speaker of the Legislative Assembly, Cabinet Ministers, Members of Parliament, Advisor to Chief Minister of UT of J&K, Chairperson J&K Waqf Board, State Election Commissioner, former Chief Justices and Judges of the High Court and a distinguished gathering representing the judiciary, Bar, civil and police administration and academia.

A large number of sitting and former Chief Justices and Judges from several High Courts across the country, particularly from Rajasthan besides the High Courts of Delhi, Punjab, Haryana and Allahabad, attended the event. The presence of Dr. Justice Nupur Bhati, Judge of the Rajasthan High Court and spouse of the Chief Justice, his parents, close relatives and other family members added special significance to the occasion.

Among other dignitaries present were the Chief Secretary, J&K; Director General of Police of J&K; Commissioners/Secretaries to Government of UT of Jammu & Kashmir and UT of Ladakh, Vice-Chancellors of Universities; Members of the Central Administrative Tribunal besides Executive Members of the Kashmir Advocates’ Association and the J&K High Court Bar Association, Jammu; Law Officers of the High Court of J&K and Ladakh; Judicial Officers and officers of the High Court Registry.

A sizeable representation of senior Advocates, Government Advocates and other members of the Bar from Rajasthan besides staff members and other distinguished guests, also attended the event.

The Ministry of Law and Justice, Government of India, issued the notification regarding the appointment of Dr. Justice Pushpendra Singh Bhati as Chief Justice of the High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh on September 5, 2026.

Born on September 21, 1970, Dr. Justice Bhati enrolled as an Advocate in 1992 and practised primarily before the Rajasthan High Court at Jodhpur, acquiring extensive experience in diverse areas of law. These included constitutional and writ jurisdiction, service matters, public interest litigation, election, revenue, mining, education, Panchayati Raj, family and criminal law.

Before his elevation as a Judge of the Rajasthan High Court on November 16, 2016, Dr. Justice Bhati served as Additional Advocate General for the State of Rajasthan from October 13, 2008 to December 29, 2008, and again from January 6, 2014.

During his distinguished career at the Bar, Dr. Justice Bhati was elected as Member of the Bar Council of Rajasthan for the period 2009–2015. He also served as President of the Rajasthan High Court Lawyers’ Association from 2011 to 2013 and as General Secretary of the Rajasthan High Court Advocates’ Association in 2001.

Dr. Justice Bhati holds B.A., LL.B. and LL.M. in Mercantile Law besides a Ph.D. He served as Visiting Faculty at the Faculty of Law, Jai Narain Vyas University, Jodhpur, for 19 years from 1997 to 2016 and as Visiting Faculty at National Law University, Jodhpur, for one year. He is also a Member of the Executive Committee of the Rajasthan Chapter of the Indian Law Institute.

President Murmu assigns Ladakh LG Vinai Kumar Saxena additional charge of J&K

Jammu, September 8: President Droupadi Murmu has appointed the Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Vinai Kumar Saxena, to discharge the functions of the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir during the absence of incumbent J&K Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, who has proceeded on leave.

According to the official update, Saxena will perform the duties and functions of the Lieutenant Governor of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir for the period of Sinha’s absence.

The temporary arrangement has been made to ensure continuity in the functioning of the Lieutenant Governor’s office and the administration of Jammu and Kashmir.

Manoj Sinha has been serving as the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir and has overseen the Union Territory’s administration during a crucial period marked by political, developmental and security challenges.

The appointment of Vinai Kumar Saxena to discharge the additional responsibilities is an interim arrangement during Sinha’s leave.

IIFJK: DIPR organises day-long screenings of films at Wave Cinemas at Jammu

JAMMU, SEPTEMBER 08: Divisional Commissioner Jammu Ramesh Kumar today felicitated filmmakers, producers and artists associated with a number of renowned and acclaimed films from the Jammu region during the International Film Festival Jammu & Kashmir (IIFJK) event organised at Wave Mall, Jammu.
DIG Jammu-Samba-Kathua Shridhar Patil, Director Census Operations J&K and Ladakh Amit Sharma, Director Tourism, Director Handloom, Controller Legal Metrology, Director Floriculture, Director CAD, Joint Director Information Deepak Dubey, officers from the Information Department and other departments, members of the filmmaking and artist community and college students were present on the occasion.
During the special screening of the movie IKKIS, organised as part of IIFJK, the Divisional Commissioner, felicitated prominent filmmakers, producers and artists associated with Dogri cinema for their contribution towards promoting the Dogri language, cinema and cultural heritage.
The occasion also acknowledged the rich legacy of notable Dogri films including the first ever Dogri featured film Gallan Hoiyan Beetiya and Maa Ni Mildi, Kuggi Maar Duaari, R**t, Geetian, Aau Aa Shinda, Shah Shani, Lakeer, Mehroom, Chann Mahi, Funtasiyan and Moj Masti. The felicitation recognised the creative contribution of filmmakers and artists in preserving and promoting Dogri language, culture and storytelling traditions through cinema.
Earlier, a number of short films and movies from across the country and around the globe, curated by the special jury of IFFJK, were screened throughout the day for the general public, providing film enthusiasts and students an opportunity to experience diverse cinematic narratives.
Meanwhile, a cultural programme featuring acclaimed dogri singer Bishan Das, Romalo Ram & Party beside performances of prominent singers and cultural artists were also organised in the evening, adding vibrancy to the celebrations and further amplifying the spirit of the first-ever International Film Festival of Jammu & Kashmir. The programme reflected the international film festival’s vision of showcasing the region’s rich cultural heritage, creative talent and growing cinematic potential.
