SHOPIAN POLICE RECOVER 1 KG OF CHARAS FROM RESIDENTIAL HOUSE IN ZAINAPORA

Shopian, September 28, 2025:

In its continued crackdown against drug menace, Shopian Police recovered 1 Kg of charas from a residential house in Zainapora.

Acting on specific information, Police Station Zainapora registered a case under FIR No. 77/2025 of NDPS Act and obtained a search warrant from the Hon’ble Court of Chief Judicial Magistrate 1st Class Shopian. A team from Police Station Zainapora, led by SHO Insp. Ghulam Jeelani and accompanied by the Executive Magistrate 1st Class, raided the house of Gh. Mohammad Sheikh S/o Sanaullah Sheikh R/o Humhuna Nagbal.

During the search, 1 Kg of charas-like substance along with a grinder machine used for processing contraband was seized. The accused is absconding and efforts are underway to effect his arrest.

The operation was carried out under the close supervision of SDPO Zainapora Shri Waseem Ahmad (JKPS) and overall supervision of SSP Shopian Shri Anayat Ali Chowdhary (IPS).

Shopian Police reiterates its commitment to eradicate the menace of drugs from society and urges the public to extend cooperation. Information regarding drug abuse/peddling can be shared on helpline 9596768831 (PCR Shopian). Identity of informers will be kept strictly confidential.

*Two Injured as Thar Collides with SSB Bus at Baghat Chowk Sgr

Srinagar, Sep 26 (KNC): Two persons were injured in a road accident on Friday morning at Baghat Chowk area of Central Kashmir's Srinagar district.

An official told news agency Kashmir News Corner — KNC, One speedy Thar collided with SSB bus resulting in injuries to two persons travelling in the Thar.

Both the injured were given immediate medical attention, while police have taken cognizance of the incident. (KNC)

*Court Rejects Bail Plea of Three in Anantnag Organized Crime Case*

Srinagar, Sep 26 (KNC): The Principal Sessions Judge Anantnag on Thursday refused bail to three accused persons linked with an organized crime case, reinforcing the crackdown against crime syndicates in the district.

As per news agency Kashmir News Corner --- KNC, The accused, Mohammad Iqbal Wani, son of Mohd Skindar Wani of Voibomndora Kokernag; Tasaduq Hussain Dar, son of Ab. Gani Dar of Sadoora Anantnag; and Mujeeb Ahmad Koka, son of Gh. Mohi-ud-din Koka of Shankerpora Anantnag, were booked under FIR No. 126/2025 for offences punishable under the Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita, including Section 111 pertaining to organized crime.

Rejecting their plea, the court underscored the seriousness of the allegations and the larger impact of organized criminal activities on society.

Terming the order a major boost to the police’s drive against crime syndicates, Anantnag Police said the decision strengthens law enforcement’s hands in tackling organized crime and sends a strong message to criminal networks operating in the region.

“District Police Anantnag is committed to acting tough against organized crime. The investigation will continue to ensure every culprit faces the law, police said.” (KNC)

*LG chairs high-level security review meet a day after violent protests in Leh*

Srinagar, Sept 25 : Lieutenant Governor Kavinder Gupta on Thursday chaired a high-level security review meeting to assess the situation across Ladakh, a day after violent protests left 4 dead and over 50 people injured over Statehood and 6th Schedule demand.

In a post on X, Lt Gupta, per news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) emphasised the need for heightened vigilance, seamless inter-agency coordination and proactive measures to safeguard peace, security and public order across the Union Territory.

"Lt Governor Kavinder Gupta chaired a high-level security review meeting to assess the emerging situation across Ladakh, emphasizing the need for heightened vigilance, seamless inter-agency coordination, & proactive measures to safeguard peace, security, & public order across UT," Office of LG Ladakh posted on X.

At least four persons died and over 50 were injured after protestors, demanding Statehood and constitutional guarantees under 6th Schedule for Ladakh, set ablaze a police vehicle. In response, security forces resorted to firing in self-defence, leading to casualties, Ministry of Home Affairs said in a statement last night.

The protestors also set ablaze Bharatiya Janata Party's head office in Leh and the office of the Chief Executive Councillor (CEC). The Home Ministry stated that activist Sonam Wangchuk's provocative speeches led to the violence in Leh.

Following the violent protests, authorities imposed restrictions in the Leh city to contain the situation. Meanwhile, Kargil Democratic Alliance (KDA) had called for a complete shutdown in the Kargil town today, prompting authorities to impose restrictions in order to avoid any law and order situation1—(KNO)
