Jammu Kashmir Anganwadi Workers and Helpers Protest in Jammu, Demand Hike in Honorarium

Kashmiri Anganwadi workers and helpers held a protest outside the Press Club of Jammu, demanding an immediate and substantial hike in their honorarium and better working conditions.
These workers have been struggling for years.

Like ASHA workers and other frontline workers, they perform essential duties for society and the government, yet they continue to receive extremely low remuneration.

For many, it has become increasingly difficult to meet even basic household expenses and sustain their families.

After the downgrading of Jammu and Kashmirโ€™s statehood, the Union Government promised development and a โ€œViksit Jammu and Kashmir.โ€ But the question remains: where is that development for these grassroots workers who are struggling to make ends meet?

The workers say they are not being paid according to the wage standards and norms applicable in the Union Territory. They point out that the daily-wage rate is around โ‚น624, while their honorarium remains far below what is needed to maintain a decent livelihood.

These women are serving communities, supporting children and families, and carrying out important responsibilities on the ground. They deserve dignity, fair compensation, and social securityโ€”not empty promises.

The government must listen to their genuine demands and immediately revise their honorarium in line with applicable UT wage norms.

A government that speaks of development must also ensure that the people working at the grassroots can afford to live with dignity.

Shame on a system that keeps essential workers struggling for their basic livelihood says protesters.

These two pictures have taken away my peace of mind.

In one, a little girl seeks shelter beside an electric pole, only to be struck by another concrete block.

In the other, a small boy carries his little sister on his back, desperately searching for their parents.

The helplessness in these images is heartbreaking. Some pictures donโ€™t just stay on the screen ! they stay in your mind and disturb your soul. ๐Ÿ’”

Doctors at SKIMS Srinagar Protest Over Internship Honorarium

Doctors at SKIMS Srinagar held a protest demanding a revision and hike in their internship honorarium.

The protesting interns said that interns in several parts of the country are receiving around โ‚น30,000โ€“โ‚น40,000 per month, while they continue to receive significantly less in Jammu and Kashmir despite working long hours.

โ€œWe work round the clock. Interns are the backbone of the hospital, handling patient care and assisting in various departments, yet we are being paid very little,โ€ the protesting doctors said.
The doctors urged the authorities to revise the internship honorarium and bring it at par with the compensation being provided to interns in other parts of the country.

The protesting interns said the demand is not only about remuneration but also about recognising the workload, responsibilities and long hours put in by medical interns at GMC Srinagar.
