Baba Banda Singh Bahadur Memorial Trust meets Mahant Manjeet Singh Ji; discusses promotion of Punjabi language in J&K

Jammu, October 7: A team of the Baba Banda Singh Bahadur Memorial Trust, comprising Chairman Dr. Satwant Singh Rissam, President Harpreet Singh, Vice President Balmeet Singh, General Secretary Jagjyot Singh Raina, and Advisor Manjeet Singh Azaad, met Mahant Manjeet Singh Ji and discussed the ongoing issue concerning the promotion of the Punjabi language in Jammu and Kashmir.

During the meeting, the Trust members deliberated on the need for greater recognition, preservation, and institutional promotion of Punjabi in the Union Territory. They emphasised that Punjabi forms an integral part of the region’s linguistic, cultural, and historical heritage.

The delegation also discussed the growing demand for the inclusion of Punjabi as an official language of Jammu and Kashmir and called for concerted efforts to strengthen Punjabi education, literature, and cultural expression across the region.

Others present on the occasion included Parvinder Singh and Daljeet Singh.
The Baba Banda Singh Bahadur Memorial Trust reiterated its commitment to supporting initiatives aimed at safeguarding the Punjabi language and ensuring its rightful place in the linguistic and cultural landscape of Jammu and Kashmir.

*SAMBA POLICE CRACKS JAKH MURDER CASE WITHIN HOURS; MAIN ACCUSED ARRESTED, WEAPON OF OFFENCE RECOVERED*

Samba: October 06, 2026: Samba Police has achieved a significant breakthrough in Jakh, Vijaypur murder case within hours of the commission of the offence with the arrest of the main accused and recovery of the weapon of offence. The case was registered at Police Station Vijaypur under FIR No.163/2026 U/S 103 BNS & 3/27 Arms Act.

On 05.10.2026 at about 1740 hours, an information was received at Police Station Vijaypur regarding a firing incident at Jakh near Power House. On receipt of the information, police immediately responded and initiated investigation into the incident.

During the incident, Atish Sharma @ Attu S/o Omkar Nath R/o Jakh Tehsil Vijaypur District Samba sustained fi***rm injuries and succumbed to his injuries at the spot.

During the course of investigation, it emerged that Nikhil Sharma S/o Bawa Ditta R/o Jakh Bagla Rajinderpura Tehsil Vijaypur District Samba had allegedly fired upon the deceased with a pistol following a land dispute.

Accordingly, FIR No. 163/2026 U/S 103 BNS & 3/27 Arms Act was registered at Police Station Vijaypur and investigation was taken up.

Acting swiftly, the police team of Police Station Vijaypur arrested the main accused namely Nikhil Sharma within hours of the commission of the offence. During investigation, the accused made a disclosure regarding his involvement in the commission of the offence.

Pursuant to the disclosure, the weapon of offence i.e. pistol was recovered in the presence of the Executive Magistrate and taken into possession as per procedure.

Further investigation is in progress to establish all facts and circumstances connected with the case.
