Majalta Police tightens noose on narco mafia, 5 held with he**in in 4 NDPS cases

UDHAMPUR, MAY 29: In a major offensive against the growing drug menace, Majalta Police on Thursday registered four separate NDPS cases within a single day and arrested five accused persons with recovery of he**in/chitta-like contraband substance from different parts of the area.

The back-to-back operations, carried out during naka checking and routine patrolling, mark one of the most significant single-day anti-drug crackdowns in the Majalta belt in recent months.

In the first incident, a police party deployed at Battal Naka intercepted a scooty bearing registration number JK02CX-8136 coming from the Mansar side.

During search, approximately 8.47 grams of he**in-like substance was recovered from the possession of two persons riding the vehicle.

The accused were identified as Nitin Sharma and Karunesh Sharma, both sons of Mohinder Singh and residents of H.No. 335-D, Last Morh, Sarwal, Jammu.

Both accused were arrested on the spot and the scooty used in the transportation of the contraband substance was seized.

Police registered FIR Number 81/2026 under Sections 8/21/22 of the NDPS Act at Police Station Majalta and initiated investigation.

In another operation, a police party during naka checking at Manwal intercepted a pedestrian moving from Battal Morh towards Manwal under suspicious circumstances.

During questioning, he identified himself as Amit Singh, son of Raj Singh, resident of Kambal Danga, Udhampur.

Upon personal search, police recovered approximately 3.08 grams of he**in/chitta-like contraband substance from his possession.

In this regard, FIR Number 82/2026 under Sections 8/21/22 NDPS Act was registered at Police Station Majalta.

Continuing the intensified anti-drug drive, police later intercepted a Pulsar motorcycle bearing registration number JK14F-0126 coming from Khoon Dhar road towards Majalta.

The rider identified himself as Irfan Ahmed, son of Mohd Farooq, resident of Bakhal Harteryan, Udhampur.

During personal search, approximately 4.5 grams of he**in/chitta-like substance was recovered from his possession.

Police subsequently registered FIR Number 83/2026 under Sections 8/21/22 NDPS Act and launched further investigation.

In yet another successful operation, a truck bearing registration number JK14B-8681 travelling from Manwal towards Battal was intercepted at Battal Naka.

During checking, police recovered approximately 5 grams of he**in/chitta-like substance from the possession of the driver Ravi Kumar, son of Ram Krishan, resident of Ghantwal, Chenani, Udhampur.

Accordingly, FIR Number 84/2026 under Sections 8/21/22 NDPS Act was registered at Police Station Majalta.

The series of successful operations were conducted by police teams of Police Station Majalta led by SHO Inspector Satar Choudhary under the supervision of SSP Udhampur Amritpal Singh.

The repeated recoveries and consecutive NDPS cases within hours underline the aggressive strategy adopted by Udhampur Police to dismantle the narcotics network operating across the region.

Officials said the intensified drive aims to choke drug supply routes, identify peddlers and protect the youth from the dangerous grip of substance abuse.

The crackdown has sent a strong warning to drug traffickers and peddlers that Jammu and Kashmir Police is maintaining zero tolerance against narcotics and will continue its sustained offensive against the drug ecosystem.

JAMMU, MAY 29: Continuing its drive against drug trafficking, Gadigarh Police apprehended an alleged drug peddler during routine naka checking at Babliyana area along with he**in on Thursday.

According to police sources, a police party of Police Post Gadigarh intercepted a suspect during checking and recovered approximately 10.32 grams of he**in-like substance from his possession.

The accused has been identified as Surinder Singh alias Shampoo/Shimpu, son of Swarn Singh, a resident of Babliyana, Jammu.

The accused was immediately taken into custody and contraband substance was seized on the spot.

In this regard, cognizance has been taken and further investigation has been initiated.

The operation was conducted by PSI Jarnail Singh, Incharge Police Post Gadigarh under the supervision of SHO Satwari Inspector Paramjeet Singh.

JAMMU, MAY 29: In preparation for the forthcoming Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra scheduled to commence on July 3, SSP Jammu Joginder Singh visited the Bhagwati Nagar Base Camp to review the security and logistical arrangements being put in place for the smooth conduct of the annual pilgrimage.

During the visit, the SSP conducted a comprehensive inspection of the security deployment and interacted with officers and officials stationed at the base camp.

Officers from the CRPF and civil administration were also present during the review meeting.

Detailed discussions were held regarding the overall security strategy, crowd management, traffic regulation, surveillance mechanisms, emergency response preparedness and inter-agency coordination to ensure the safety and convenience of the pilgrims.

SAMBA, MAY 29: Continuing its crackdown against drug trafficking under the ongoing Nasha Mukt Abhiyan, Ghagwal Police arrested an alleged drug peddler and recovered approximately 12.94 grams of he**in-like substance (Chitta) from his possession.

According to official sources, a team of Police Station Ghagwal during routine checking at NHW Naka Tapyal intercepted a pedestrian who was moving from Kathua towards Samba under suspicious circumstances.

During frisking, police recovered approximately 12.94 grams of he**in-like substance from his possession.

The accused has been identified as Abhishake Sharma alias Abhi, son of Krishan Lal, resident of Jassore, Tehsil RS Pura, District Jammu.

He was immediately taken into custody and the contraband substance was seized on the spot.

Major reshuffle in Udhampur Police; several SHOs, PSIs transferred

UDHAMPUR, MAY 29: In a significant administrative reshuffle aimed at strengthening policing and improving field-level functioning, District Police Headquarters (DPHQ) Udhampur on Thursday ordered the transfer and posting of several police officers across the district with immediate effect.

As per the official order issued by SSP Udhampur, seven police officers, including Inspectors and PSIs, have been transferred and assigned new postings in different police stations and police posts of the district.

According to the order, Inspector Purshotam Kumar has been transferred from Police Station Rehmbal and posted as SHO Police Station Ramnagar.

Inspector Nishant Gupta, who was posted at DPL Udhampur, has been appointed as SHO Police Station Chenani.

Similarly, Inspector Parvez Sajad has been transferred from DPL Udhampur and posted as SHO Police Station Udhampur. However, the order states that he shall assume charge after the relieving of the present SHO Udhampur, IPS officer Abhijeet Sirohi.

Inspector Sumit Magotra has been posted as SHO Police Station Rehmbal from DPL Udhampur.

Among the PSIs, Manveer Singh has been shifted from Police Station Ramnagar to Police Station Udhampur, while PSI Varun Sharma has been transferred from Police Station Udhampur and posted as Incharge Police Post Battal Ballian.

PSI Ravinder Kumar has been shifted from Police Post Battal Ballian to Police Station Udhampur.

The order stated that all officers shall report to their new places of posting forthwith.

PDP delegation meets Mehbooba M***i, raises key concerns of Jammu Region

SRINAGAR, MAY 28:A prominent delegation of the Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), led by Narinder Sharma, Constituency Incharge RS Pura Jammu South, today met PDP President Mehbooba M***i at her residence in Kashmir and held an extensive discussion on a wide range of social, political and financial issues concerning the people of Jammu and Kashmir Union Territory.

The delegation comprised Vicky Kumar Dogra, Constituency Incharge Bishnah, Ashok Kumar, Zone President, along with senior party members Sudesh Kumar and Lalit Kumar Motan.

During the interaction, the leaders apprised Mehbooba M***i about the hardships and challenges being faced by people at the grassroots level, especially in border and rural areas of the Jammu region.

The delegation highlighted growing unemployment among educated youth and stressed the urgent need for employment-oriented policies, industrial growth and better opportunities for self-employment.

During the meeting, special emphasis was laid on the development of border belts, rural infrastructure, healthcare facilities, road connectivity, drinking water supply and power distribution in several areas of Jammu province.

The delegation expressed concern over inadequate civic amenities in many villages and called for equitable development of all regions without discrimination.

The leaders further discussed issues related to farmers and small traders, stating that both sectors require greater financial assistance and policy support.

They emphasized the need for timely compensation to farmers affected by natural calamities and better market facilities for agricultural produce.

Political issues concerning the future of Jammu and Kashmir were also discussed in detail.

The delegation stressed the importance of safeguarding democratic values, strengthening public participation in governance and ensuring that the voices of people from every section of society are heard and respected.

They said that restoration of public trust and confidence is essential for lasting peace, stability and progress in the Union Territory.

Narinder Sharma said that the delegation conveyed the sentiments and aspirations of the people directly to the party leadership and reiterated the commitment of PDP workers towards public service.

DODA, MAY 28: In continuation of its sustained crackdown against narcotics under the ongoing Nasha Mukt Jammu Kashmir Abhiyaan, Jammu and Kashmir Police achieved another major success after apprehending a suspected drug peddler and recovering approximately 6.92 grams of he**in (chitta)-like substance near Ganpat Bridge in Doda district.

According to the Police Media Cell Doda, acting on reliable prior information about a person travelling from Jammu towards Bhaderwah carrying narcotic substance, a police naka was established near Ganpat Bridge under the supervision of the SHO of Police Station Doda.

During checking, one suspicious person attempted to flee after noticing the police party.

However, the alert personnel acted swiftly and apprehended him on the spot.

During questioning, the accused identified himself as Mohd. Asif Bhatt, son of Mohd. Alyas Bhatt and resident of Sarna, Bhaderwah.

A personal search led to the recovery of approximately 6.92 grams of he**in (Chitta)-like narcotic substance from his possession.

Preliminary investigation suggested that the accused was allegedly transporting the contraband substance for selling purposes.

A case FIR Number 139/2026 under Sections 8/21/22 of the NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Doda and investigation into the matter is currently underway.

Doda Police reiterated its firm commitment towards eradicating the drug menace from society and urged citizens to cooperate with law enforcement agencies by sharing information related to drug trafficking and substance abuse in their respective areas.

SRINAGAR, MAY 28: The Jammu and Kashmir government on Thursday issued a roster of Administrative Secretaries who will remain available at the Civil Secretariat in Jammu during the month of June 2026, an official order said.

The order, issued by the General Administration Department (GAD), said senior IAS and JKAS officers have been assigned duty on a rotational basis throughout the month.

According to the roster, Financial Commissioner (Additional Chief Secretary), Public Works (R&B) Department, Anil Kumar Singh, and Commissioner/Secretary, Tribal Affairs Department, Prasanna Ramaswamy G, IAS, will be available from June 1 to June 5, 2026.

Principal Secretary to the Government, Home Department, Chandraker Bharti, and Commissioner/Secretary, Science & Technology Department, Babila Rakwal, have been assigned duty from June 8 to June 12, 2026.

Commissioner Secretary, Department of Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs, Saurabh Bhagat, and Commissioner Secretary, Floriculture, Parks and Gardens Department, Zubair Ahmad, will remain available from June 15 to June 19, 2026.

Centre notifies high-speed Delhi-Katra NE-5 expressway corridor

NEW DELHI, MAY 28: The Centre has notified the proposed NE-5 Expressway, a high-speed Delhi-Katra corridor aimed at improving connectivity between the National Capital Region and Jammu and Kashmir through Haryana and Punjab.

The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways issued the notification under the National Highways Act, 1956, bringing the proposed corridor into the national highways network and paving the way for land acquisition and alignment planning.

According to the notification, the expressway will originate near Rani Khera village in Delhi at its junction with NH-344M and connect with the Kundli-Manesar-Palwal Expressway near Jasaur Kheri village before passing through Haryana and Punjab and terminating near Katra in Jammu and Kashmir.

In Haryana, the corridor will pass through Kharkhoda, Gohana, Butana, Kalayat and Barta.

In Punjab, it will traverse Gulzapur, Patran, Bhawanigarh, Dhuri, Malerkotla, Ahmedgarh, Mullanpur Dakha, Nurmahal, Kangsabu, Kartarpur, Gurdaspur bypass and Balsua before linking with NH-144 near Katra.

Officials said the expressway is expected to reduce travel time and improve movement of passengers and freight across northern India.

The project is also expected to support trade and economic activity by improving connectivity to industrial and agricultural regions in Haryana and Punjab.

Officials said the corridor could also boost religious tourism, particularly for pilgrims travelling to the Mata Vaishno Devi shrine in Katra.

The notification comes as part of the Centre’s ongoing expansion of the national expressway network aimed at improving connectivity across economic and strategic corridors.

Officials said the project is likely to generate employment during construction and encourage the development of logistics parks, hotels, industrial hubs and commercial infrastructure along the route.

KATHUA, MAY 28: Continuing its intensified crackdown against narcotics under the ongoing , Hiranagar Police achieved another success after apprehending a drug peddler with he**in-like substance in the Dyalachak area.

Acting under the overall supervision of SSP Kathua Mohita Sharma, a police team from Police Station Hiranagar conducted patrolling near Tarnah Nallah in the Dyalachak area.

During the operation, police intercepted a suspicious person moving through the area.

The accused was identified as Kuldeep Kumar alias Keepa, son of Kaka Ram and resident of Chann Datyal, Tehsil Hiranagar, District Kathua.

During his search, police recovered approximately 5.22 grams of he**in (Chitta)-like narcotics from his possession.

The contraband was seized on the spot and the accused was taken into custody.

In this regard, FIR Number 60/2026 under Sections 8/21/22 of the NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Hiranagar, while further investigation is underway to ascertain forward and backward linkages in the narcotics network.

District Police Kathua appealed to the public to actively support the fight against drug trafficking by sharing information regarding any illegal narcotics activity through emergency helpline 112 or on 9858034100, assuring that the identity of informants will be kept strictly confidential.
