JU’s Bhaderwah Campus Students Shine at Annual Startup Mela – Startup Idea Challenge 2025–26

Bhaderwah, January 30: Students of School of Management Studies, Bhaderwah Campus, University of Jammu, brought laurels to the institution by securing prestigious awards at the Annual Startup Mela – Startup Idea Challenge 2025–26, organized by the Industries & Commerce Department, Government of Jammu & Kashmir, in collaboration with the Jammu & Kashmir Entrepreneurship Development Institute (JKEDI). The students showcased innovative startup ideas and demonstrated commendable entrepreneurial skills on this highly competitive and reputed platform.

After qualifying through three rigorous stages of evaluation, the startup ideas presented by the students were shortlisted and awarded across different categories. The awards were conferred by the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Jammu & Kashmir, adding further distinction and significance to this notable achievement.

Under the Sustainability Stars Award category, Ms. Prakriti Dutt, a student of MBA 4th Semester, emerged as the winner and received a cash prize of ₹25,000 for her innovative and sustainable startup idea. Mr. Arif, a student of BBA 6th Semester, was honoured with the Rural Impact Award and also received a cash prize of ₹25,000 for his startup concept aimed at fostering rural development. Additionally, Mr. Rohit Bhagat received the Jury Recommended Award along with a cash prize of ₹10,000, recognizing the originality and future potential of his startup idea.

Prof. Rahul Gupta, Rector, Bhaderwah Campus, congratulated the award-winning students and applauded their creativity, dedication, and entrepreneurial spirit. He remarked that such accomplishments reflect the vibrant and evolving entrepreneurial ecosystem at Bhaderwah Campus and reaffirm the institution’s commitment to promoting innovation, leadership, and startup culture among students. He further emphasized that platforms like the Startup Mela play a crucial role in translating academic ideas into practical, real-world solutions.

Dr. Umesh Choudhary, Head, School of Management Studies, Bhaderwah Campus, expressed immense pride in the outstanding performance of the students. He stated that the success achieved is the result of continuous mentoring, academic guidance, and a strong emphasis on experiential and outcome-based learning within the department.

Dr. Umesh Choudhary also placed on record his sincere appreciation for the dedicated efforts of the faculty members, Dr. Rohit Bhagat, Dr. Mohammed Avais, Dr. Umar Sadeeq, Dr. Shabir Hussain, Asma Jamil, Surbi Langeh, Dr. Alyas Ahmed, Amit, Rajinder Kumar, Mehmood Ahmed, and Bhumeeka Katoch whose constant encouragement, guidance and academic support played a pivotal role in nurturing the entrepreneurial mindset of the students.

Grand Convocation Marks Successful Conclusion of One-Month Leadership Development Workshop in Kishtwar
Kishtwar, January 31, 2026: The one-month Leadership Development Workshop, organized by the Institute for Intellectual Development J&K (IID J&K) in collaboration with Mothers Pride High School, Kishtwar, culminated in a grand convocation ceremony that concluded with resounding success.

ADC Bhaderwah Finalises Republic Day 2026 Arrangements
Bhaderwah, January 12: Additional Deputy Commissioner Bhaderwah, Shri Sunil Kumar Bhutyal, chaired a meeting at Dak Bungalow, Bhaderwah, to finalise arrangements for the Republic Day 2026 celebrations. The meeting reviewed security, sanitation, medical facilities, power and water supply, seating, illumination of government buildings, and event logistics. It was informed that the main function will be held at the New Bus Stand Kotli, Bhaderwah, with the national flag to be unfurled at 9:55 AM, followed by a march-past, cultural programmes, and Shehnai Vadan. BOOTLEGGER ARRESTED BY DODA POLICE.

January 03, 2026.

Doda Police, during routine naka checking at Premnagar Market, apprehended a bootlegger and recovered illicit liquor from his possession.
During the checking, a police team from Police Post Premnagar, under the jurisdiction of Police Station Thathri, intercepted one person identified as Ajay Kumar S/o Sarjeet Singh R/o Dron Kerani, Premnagar. Upon search, 36 bottles (250 ml each) of JK Special Whisky were recovered from his possession.

The recovery revealed the commission of an offence under Section 48(a) of the Excise Act. Accordingly, FIR No. 02/2026 U/S 48(a) Excise Act has been registered at Police Station Thathri, and cognizance of the offence has been taken.

Further investigation into the matter is underway.
Doda Police reiterates its commitment to taking strict action against illegal activities and appeals to the public to cooperate with police for maintaining law and order.

DODA POLICE SEIZED DISTILLATION APPARATUS (BHATTI) ALONG WITH ILLICIT LIQUOR*

Doda Police achieved a significant success in its continuous drive against the illicit liquor trade by seizing a distillation apparatus (Bhatti) along with a huge quantity of illicit liquor within the jurisdiction of Police Post Bhalla, Police Station Bhaderwah.

Today, based on reliable information received at Police Post Bhalla, it came to fore that one lady namely Sumana Devi, wife of Angat Kumar, resident of Tesana, Tehsil Bhalla, was allegedly indulging in the manufacturing and sale of illicit liquor from her residence.

Acting swiftly on the information, a police party from PP Bhalla along with the Executive Magistrate In-Charge Bhalla rushed to the spot and conducted a raid at the said location. During the search operation, the following items were recovered:, 04 bottles (750 ml each) of illicit Desi liquor, 09 bottles (750 ml each) of JK Special Whisky Approximately 180 litres of lahan (fermented material)
Distillation apparatus (Bhatti) All the recovered items were seized on the spot in accordance with law.

Accordingly, a case FIR No. 01/2026 under Sections 48(a), 48(b), 48(e) and 48(f) of the Excise Act has been registered at Police Station Bhaderwah, and further investigation is underway.
Doda Police reiterate their firm commitment to curb the menace of illicit liquor and appeal to the general public to cooperate with the police by sharing information related to illegal activities.

DC Doda conducts surprise inspection of restoration works at Doda–Pul Doda road

Deputy Commissioner Doda, Sh. Harvinder Singh, IAS today inspected the ongoing restoration and soil stabilization works at Y-Junction on Doda–Pul Doda road. Directions were issued to expedite the work while ensuring quality and safety.

Traffic suspended from December 25 to 27 in the interest of public safety.
Vehicles are being diverted via the Doda–Pul Doda route through Ganpat Bridge.

Citizens are requested to follow traffic advisories and cooperate with the district administration for early restoration of normal traffic movement.
