*Raksha Bandhan is celebrated to honor the sacred bond between a brother and a sister.

- *Raksha means Protection, Bandhan means Bond.* On this day, a sister ties a Rakhi (a sacred thread) on her brother's wrist and prays for his long life.
- In return, the brother promises to protect her from every difficulty in life.

*Main reasons behind it:*

1. *History:* When Lord Krishna hurt his finger, Draupadi tore her saree and tied it on his hand. In return, Krishna promised to protect her forever - which he did during Cheer Haran.
2. *Tradition:* It celebrates the love, care, and promise of protection between siblings
