First Communion, also known as First Holy Communion or the Eucharist Sacrament, is a Christian ceremony that celebrates a person's first time receiving the Eucharist, or consecrated bread and wine:
What it is
A sacrament in the Catholic Church that marks a person's initiation into the Catholic faith and their relationship with Jesus Christ.
When it happens
Usually when a child is around 7 or 8 years old, after they have been baptized.
What it symbolizes
The bread represents Jesus' body and the wine represents his blood. Christians believe that the Eucharist clears sins and brings people closer to Jesus.
How it's celebrated
