Entrepreneurship Awareness Boot Camp Organized at GDCW Kathua

Kathua, September 18:
Government Degree College for Women (GDCW) Kathua, in collaboration with Jammu and Kashmir Entrepreneurship Development Institute (JKEDI), Kathua, organized an Entrepreneurship Awareness Boot Camp with the aim of fostering entrepreneurial spirit among students, particularly young women. The initiative was focused on empowering youth to become self-reliant, confident, and future-ready entrepreneurs.

The event was graced by dignitaries from JKEDI including Mr. Chand Kishore Sharma, Joint Director; Mr. Dheeraj Handoo, District Nodal Officer; Mr. Vir Pratap Singh, Faculty; and Mr. Raghubir Singh, Office Associate. Representatives from partner organizations — Mr. Nipun Sharma, District Manager, NABARD, and Mr. Deepak from J&K Bank — also attended the program and extended their support.

Addressing the gathering, Mr. Dheeraj Handoo highlighted the objectives of the boot camp and the opportunities available for aspiring entrepreneurs in the region. Dr. Savi Behl, Principal of GDCW Kathua, underlined the importance of entrepreneurship education in shaping the future of students.

The program, organized under the aegis of the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) led by Dr. Inderjeet Kour (Coordinator), witnessed enthusiastic participation of about 100 students who shared innovative ideas and expressed their entrepreneurial aspirations. The proceedings were moderated by Dr. Kamini Kapoor.

Faculty members including Prof. Yash Pal, Dr. Renu, Dr. Lakhwinder Singh, Dr. Poonam Sambyal, and Prof. Manjot Singh were also present and encouraged the participants.

This initiative forms part of the MoU signed between JKEDI and GDCW Kathua, reinforcing the shared vision of both institutions to promote entrepreneurship and skill development among students. The event concluded on a note of optimism, reaffirming the collective commitment of JKEDI, NABARD, J&K Bank, and GDCW Kathua to nurture entrepreneurial capacities among young women and empower them as future leaders.

Labour Department Kathua takes Special Initiative under Sewa Parv

Kathua, September 18: In a significant welfare initiative under Sewa Parv, the Deputy Commissioner Kathua, Rajesh Sharma, today handed over financial assistance amounting to ₹10.57 lakh to registered beneficiaries under the J&K Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board (JKBOCWWB) schemes.

The Deputy Commissioner, while handing over the assistance, underlined the Administration’s resolve towards the welfare and upliftment of the labour community, particularly the unorganized sector workers who form the backbone of infrastructure development. He said that the financial aid extended under JKBOCWWB provides vital support in areas like education of children, health assistance, marriage support, pensionary benefits, and relief during exigencies.

The DC further emphasized the need to intensify awareness so that no eligible worker remains outside the ambit of welfare provisions. He directed the Labour Department to ensure handholding of workers in completing formalities so that timely benefits are delivered at their doorstep.

Speaking on the occasion, Assistant Labour Commissioner Kathua, Piyusha Khajuria, informed that a special registration drive under JKBOCWWB has been launched during the fortnight-long SEWA PARV. She said that workers are being mobilized and sensitized about the bouquet of welfare schemes available under the Board, ranging from scholarships for students to financial aid for critical health treatments and social security pensions.

DC Kathua calls for implementing IRS learnings in real-time situations

Kathua, September 18: A virtual training programme on Incident Response System (IRS) was today conducted for District Kathua by DMRR&R department through Brig. Kuldip Singh (Retd) as the resource person.

The training aimed at sensitizing officers about the structured framework of IRS for effective disaster management, ensuring a coordinated approach by all line departments during emergencies.

Brig. Kuldip Singh (Retd) shared detailed insights on the concept, objectives and functioning of the Incident Response System, highlighting the importance of establishing a clear chain of command, role clarity and efficient resource mobilization during crisis situations. He also explained how the system provides uniformity in response, reduces duplication of efforts and ensures optimum use of resources.

The participants were apprised about the responsibilities of Incident Commanders and other designated officers, the need for inter-departmental coordination and the use of IRS in handling both natural and man-made disasters.

Deputy Commissioner Kathua Rajesh Sharma, while speaking on the occasion, said that such trainings are vital in strengthening district-level preparedness and in building the capacity of officers to act swiftly and effectively during disaster situations. He urged all participants to implement the learnings in real-time scenarios to safeguard lives and property.

The session was attended by CEO DDMA Vishavjeet Singh (ADC), ACR Vishav Partap Singh, CPO Ranjit Thakur officers from NDRF, SDRF, Revenue, Police, Health, Fire & Emergency Services, PWD, Jal Shakti, PDD, Information and other stakeholder departments.

Day 2 of Sewa Parv, SNSP witnesses awareness drives, Cleanliness campaigns, Health camps & Youth-centric activities across Kathua District

Kathua, September 18: Day 2 of Sewa Parv 2025 was observed with great enthusiasm across Kathua district, featuring a host of awareness programmes, plantation drives, cleanliness campaigns, health camps, and skill development activities aimed at promoting civic responsibility, health, and community well-being.

Educational institutions across the district actively participated in anti-drug campaigns to sensitize youth about the harmful effects of substance abuse. GHSS Durang organized a symposium on ‘Say No to Drugs’, where students shared their views and pledged to stay away from the menace. PM SHRI HSS Dullangal held a Poster Making Competition on Drugs & To***co, while GGMS Nagrota Prehta and GMS Ghaghrore conducted awareness activities, all spreading the message of a drug-free and healthy lifestyle.

Under Poshan Maah 2025, a Growth Measurement Camp was held at AWC Budhi (E), Project Barnoti to promote child health and nutrition awareness. As part of the ongoing Swasth Nari Sashakt Parivar Abhiyaan, the Health Department Kathua organized screening and awareness camps across different blocks, focusing on maternal health, anaemia, cancer and NCD prevention, besides TB and sickle cell disease detection. These camps also included counselling sessions and health check-ups, ensuring accessible healthcare services for women and children at the grassroots level.

In line with the vision of financial literacy and empowerment, RSETI Kathua, in collaboration with JKGB & NABARD, organized an Awareness Camp at Village Hatli, while another programme on Banking Products was held at Mangalore. The CSC Department conducted a Cyber Security Awareness Camp at Panchayat Lowang (Bani) to educate citizens about safe digital practices.

Skill and entrepreneurship promotion also remained a major highlight. ITI Kathua organized an Awareness Session on Entrepreneurship & PM Vishwakarma Scheme, while ITI Bhaddu/Billawar, ITI Bani, and ITI Basohli conducted programmes on entrepreneurship, digital literacy, and self-employment, inspiring youth toward

🚨 - Navneet Mishra, Chairman NDPP, Intervenes in Truck Drivers’ Protest; Highway Reopened.
Jan Awaz Patrika - Samba, J&K – 17 September Navneet Mishra, Chairman of the National Democratic People’s Party (NDPP), today met with truck drivers who had been standing on the National Highway for the last 10 to 15 days and had blocked the road earlier in the day to press for their demands.

During the interaction, Mishra patiently listened to their grievances and urged them to reopen the highway, assuring them of immediate intervention. He assured the drivers, “I will take up all your issues with the concerned authorities, including the Deputy Commissioner Samba and SSP Traffic Rural.” Following his appeal, the drivers agreed and reopened the blocked road.

Subsequently, Mishra held a telephonic conversation with DC Samba, Ms. Ayushi Sudan, and briefed her about the situation and the hardships being faced by the truck drivers. The Deputy Commissioner assured Mishra that prompt action will be taken to address the concerns of the drivers and to ensure their welfare.

Speaking to the drivers, Mishra acknowledged their difficulties and said, “We understand your problems—there are no proper facilities for food, washrooms, or drinking water. These are genuine issues and must be resolved at the earliest.”

Mishra reiterated his commitment to standing with the drivers and ensuring that their rightful demands are addressed in a timely manner.
