DC Kathua chairs District Task Force meeting for National Immunization Day

Reviews arrangements for Pulse Polio Campaign on June 28

Kathua, June 06: Deputy Commissioner Kathua, Rajesh Sharma, today chaired a meeting of the District Task Force to review preparedness for the National Immunization Day (NID) Pulse Polio Campaign scheduled to be held on June 28, 2026.

Chief Medical Officer Kathua, Dr. Vijay Raina, informed that 1,02,737 children in the 0-5 years age group have been targeted for administration of Oral Polio Vaccine (OPV) during the campaign. He further apprised that an estimated 1,30,476 vaccine doses will be required to achieve the desired coverage.

The meeting was informed that 561 vaccination booths will be established across the district and 2,244 booth team members deployed for the immunization drive. As part of the strategy to ensure complete coverage, 100 high-risk areas have been identified, while transit vaccination points have been planned to cover children on the move. Special focus will also be laid on migratory and nomadic populations.

It was further informed that following the booth-based activity on June 28, house-to-house immunization and verification rounds will be conducted on June 29 and 30 to ensure that no eligible child is left out.

Reviewing the preparations, the Deputy Commissioner directed all departments to extend full support to the Health Department and ensure seamless coordination for the successful conduct of the campaign. He stressed the need for intensive IEC activities and active involvement of educational institutions, community leaders and other stakeholders to maximize public participation.

The Deputy Commissioner further directed officers to ensure adequate manpower deployment, maintenance of the cold chain, effective field-level supervision and focused coverage of high-risk and migratory population pockets. He emphasized meticulous micro-planning, close monitoring and timely reporting to achieve 100 percent immunization coverage.

Calling upon all stakeholders to work in unison, the Deputy Commissioner underscored the importance of the campaign in sustaining the district's polio-free status and safeguarding every child against the disease.

IAS Probationer Nidhi, District Immunization Officer Dr. Vaasna, District Health Officer, Chief Education Officer, Block Medical Officers and other concerned officers attended the meeting.

DC Kathua reviews progress of permanent restoration works under SDRF

Directs departments to expedite ex*****on on mission mode ahead of monsoon

Kathua, June 06: Deputy Commissioner Kathua, Rajesh Sharma, reviewed the progress of permanent restoration works being executed under the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) across the district and directed all concerned departments to accelerate ex*****on of pending works ahead of the monsoon season.

During the meeting, the Deputy Commissioner took a department-wise review of restoration projects sanctioned in the aftermath of natural calamities and assessed the progress achieved so far.

It was informed that PWD Basohli has completed 03 works while 14 are under ex*****on; PWD Billawar has completed 31 works with one work in progress; PWD Kathua has completed 04 works and is executing 26 works, while PWD Hiranagar has completed 11 works and is progressing on the remaining projects.

The meeting was also informed that restoration works being undertaken by BRO at Tikri, Sukha Nallah and Bhedu Nallah are progressing at a rapid pace.

Reviewing preparedness for the ensuing rainy season, the Deputy Commissioner directed the concerned agencies to clear blocked drains along roads and bridges to ensure smooth water flow and prevent waterlogging.

The Jal Shakti Department informed that DPRs for eight restoration works have been submitted for approval, while the Power Development Department reported that out of four sanctioned works, two have been tendered and the remaining two shall be tendered shortly. It was further informed that approval of restoration projects under the Irrigation and Flood Control sector is at the final stage.

Stressing timely completion, the Deputy Commissioner directed all executing agencies to take up the works on mission mode and ensure completion of critical projects before the onset of monsoon. He emphasized adherence to quality standards and creation of durable assets to enhance resilience against future disasters.

The Deputy Commissioner also called for close monitoring and effective inter-departmental coordination to ensure timely and efficient ex*****on of all restoration works.

ADDC Surinder Mohan Sharma, IAS Probationer Nidhi, CPO Ranjeet Thakur and other concerned officers were also present on the occasion.

*J&K POLICE KATHUA SEIZED 06 VEHICLES FOR ILLEGAL MINING AT KATHUA, BASOHLI & BILLAWAR AREA*

KATHUA; 03 JUNE:- Continuing its drive against illegal mining, J&K Police Kathua under the overall supervision of *SSP Kathua Ms. Mohita Sharma IPS* has seized a total of 06 vehicles i.e (04 Trucks, 01 Dumper & 01 Tractor Trolley) in the jurisdictional areas of P/S Kathua, Basohli & Billawar which were being used for illegal mining/transportation of the construction material (Without A Form).

In the first instance, the police team led by *SHO PS Kathua* under the guidance of *Addl. SP Kathua & DySP Hqrs Kathua* during patrolling duty seized 04 vehicles i.e 04 Trucks bearing Reg. No.s PB10BV-1481, PB23J8634,PB04AD-6658 & PB11BF-9145 loaded with construction material(Bajri) at Bedian Pattan area without any valid permission.

While in the second instance, the Police team led by *SHO PS Basohli* under the close supervision of *SDPO Basohli* during patrolling duty seized one Tractor Trolley bearing Reg. No. PB35L-8093 indulged in illegal mining without any legal permission.

Moreover, Police team led by *SHO PS Billawar* under the close supervision of *SDPO Billawar* during patrolling duty seized one Dumper bearing Reg. No.JK08M0380 indulged in illegal mining without any legal permission.

Thereafter all the above-mentioned 06 vehicles( 04 Trucks, 01 Dumper & 01 Tractor Trolley) indulged in illegal mining have been seized by Police and handed over to the Geology & Mining Department, Kathua for further legal action.

Door-to-Door Enumeration begins in Kathua under Census 2027

DC Rajesh Sharma appeals for active public participation; ADC Mahima Madan oversees ground-level census activities

Kathua, June 01: The House Listing and Housing Census, the first phase of Census 2027, commenced across Kathua district today with field functionaries fanning out across urban and rural areas to undertake the month-long enumeration exercise.

Under this phase, enumerators have started visiting households to collect information relating to housing conditions, household amenities and other prescribed particulars as per the Census framework.

Deputy Commissioner Kathua and Principal Census Officer, Rajesh Sharma, has appealed to the public to extend full cooperation to the enumerators by providing correct and complete information. He urged the residents to participate actively in the Census exercise, emphasizing that Census data serves as a critical foundation for planning and implementation of various welfare and development programmes.

To oversee the smooth conduct of the exercise, Additional Deputy Commissioner Kathua, Mahima Madan, conducted field visits in various areas of the district and reviewed the progress of enumeration activities on the ground. She interacted with enumerators and supervisors, inspected the enumeration process and assessed the preparedness of the field staff engaged in census operations.

The ADC underscored the importance of accuracy, completeness and timely collection of data, describing the Census as a vital exercise for evidence-based planning and formulation of developmental policies. She directed the field functionaries to adhere strictly to the prescribed guidelines and ensure effective coordination for the successful conduct of the exercise.

The House Listing and Housing Census shall continue till June 30, 2026, during which enumerators will undertake door-to-door visits to ensure coverage of every household in the district.

Pertinently, the Self-Enumeration facility under Census 2027 concluded on May 31, 2026. With the commencement of the House Listing and Housing Census phase, enumerators will authenticate and validate the information submitted online by households through the Self-Enumeration portal. Simultaneously, first-hand data will be collected from households that did not avail the Self-Enumeration facility, thereby ensuring comprehensive and accurate coverage during the Census exercise.
