l in Ganjam district in the Indian state of Odisha. Khallikote is small town of Ganjam district of Odisha, surrounded by hills and forests, touching the coasts of the Chilika Lake. It is lying on the north eastern part of Ganjam district full of antiquities with rich cultural heritage, hearing the sweet sound of perennial stream. Khallikote is close to National Highway No. 5 and it is on the north part of the District. It is bounded on the east by the world famous 'Chilka Lake' in the west Serpentive River 'KHARKHARI' and 'ASTADURGA' has flourished on the north by the Banapur estate and on south it spread up to Biruli and Mahuri estate. After abolition of the Athagada Zamindari , on account of Public Auction for Rs. 29,150 to Khallikote Zamindari, its boundary spread over to 'GHUMUSAR' estate. Picturesque hills which enhance the beauty of the Zamindari, Krishna giri Hill (Ht- 1070ft) situated by the south-west part. Marua (Ht- 905ft) by the south. Ghati Pahad (Ht- 700ft) in the north, Khan Dahana in the north-west part of the estate. "Khallikote is a historical place in Ganjam district which has an important role in Odisha history. The contribution of Khallikote Dynasty in the field spreading over education and formation of special Odisha state is noteworthy" as per H.K. There are twelve eye existing temple in the town. All the temples are the glorious master pieces of Mardaraj family of Khallikote built in between 16th to 19th century A.D.
1. Lord Jagannath Temple - Lord Jagannath Temple is a magnificent temple of Odisha architecture, its height is 108ft and fourth one in Odisha. Basically, the plan followed by the Jagannath Temple of Puri. The entire structure stands the designs of Pancha Ratha of Odisha Silpa Sastra. This Temple was completed during the year 1863 by Raja Narayan Dev.
2. Radha Krishna Temple - Radha Krishna Temple is situated by the road side. It is a full-fledged temple. The Temple walls are decorated with floral and geometrical designs. On the exterior walls of the Temple, Parswa Devatas are kept. No such inner beautiful carving stone work is found througout the state.
3. Balukeswar Temple - Balukeswar Temple is situated in a beautiful spot, close to bus stand which is always crowded. The founder of this temple is Balukeswar Mardaraj.
4. Amareswar Temple - Amareswar Temple is worth-seeing.
5. Gundicha Temple - It is worth-seeing. 6. Bahuti -Goddess Bahuti presiding deity of the Raj Family is in between the Palace and Jagannath Temple.
7. Kul Parvat - This modern Khallikote was the very heart of ancient Kangoda Mandola. Hence the historical antiquities such as palaces, hills and temples bear testimony which pushes back the history of this region to a distant part. The archeological remains at Krishna Giri Hill, a historical form of 'Kul Parvat' reveals that that place is famous for Jainism, Saivism and Saktism. The caves of this hill witness to the memory of the Jain Saints and Saiva hermits. It was a famous place for Jaina SRAMAMS during Sailodbhavas.
8.Snana Kunda - Beautiful attraction of this place is a bathing complex named ‘Snana Kunda’(Gupta Godabari) the ever ending spring coming out of the Krishna Giri hill and making its surrounding area most fertile Krishna Giri is situated between khalikote and Athagada boundary 18 km from national highway. This Krishna Giri bears immence historical back-ground and stands as the mute witness of glorious Archaeolo gical remains of Khalikote.
9. Giri Durg - Having Archeological remains Raj bhaban,the placew and residence of Raj family on a hill is popularly known as Giri Durg DIET and Art and Craft college are running here.
10. Nirmaljhar - This place is situated at 3 km away from western side of khalikote town under the hills of Marua and very close to chilika lake. This is in between Bhubaneswar and Berhampur of Odisha.The king Balunka Sharan mandaraj of khalikote dynasty built this shrine in 1776. The place named after Nismaljhar(pure water).i.e.sanctified by a perennial stream,let channelised to different ponds,Hallooed shrine of Lord Vishnu.The place is embellished with sculptures,arbors,idols and other carryings of highest workmanship.
