A Baleno car skidded off an under-construction flyover in Sumbal and plunged into a deep gorge.
Soon after the incident, police, along rescue team and local residents, rushed to the spot and launched an immediate operation to pull the vehicle out of the gorge.

*Residents of Khawaja Bagh Kondbal Block National Highway in Protest Against 15-Day Water Shortage**

**GANDERBAL, Oct 22:** Residents of Khawaja Bagh Kondbal on Wednesday staged a protest and blocked the Srinagar-Leh National Highway, expressing anger over the acute shortage of drinking water in the area for the past 15 days.

The agitated residents, including women and children, alleged that despite repeated pleas to the PHE Department, no steps have been taken to restore water supply. “We have been without drinking water for the last 15 days. When we approached the PHE officials, they simply said they would ‘look into the matter,’ but nothing has been done so far,” said one of the protesting women.

The protest caused disruption to traffic movement for some time before officials from the JKP reached the spot and assured the residents that the issue would be resolved at the earliest.

The protesters warned that if the authorities fail to take immediate action, they will be forced to intensify their agitation in the coming days.

Srinagar, Oct 21: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Tuesday paid rich tributes to the police martyrs at Zewan, Srinagar, on the occasion of Police Commemoration Day, honoring their supreme sacrifice in the line of duty.

Floral tributes were offered at the Martyrs’ Memorial, where senior police officers and families of the fallen personnel also paid their respects.
