Marwah Valley Residents Continue Protest Over Lack of Telecommunication Facilities

Marwah, Kishtwar: The people of the remote Marwah Valley in Jammu and Kashmir continue their protest over the persistent lack of telecommunication services. Despite repeated appeals and ongoing demonstrations, the district administration remains unresponsive, drawing criticism for its inaction.

Residents allege that in this digital age, they remain cut off from the rest of the world — unable to access basic communication services, including mobile networks and internet connectivity. “We are forced to live in isolation. In case of emergencies, we have no way to contact anyone,” said a local protester.

The continued silence of the administration has further fueled anger and frustration among the valley's population, who are now demanding urgent intervention from higher authorities.

*DC Kishtwar reviews status of ongoing telecom projects in District*

Kishtwar, 29th May 2025:
District Development Commissioner (DDC) Kishtwar Sh.Rajesh Kumar Shavan,(JKAS), today chaired a meeting to review the status of ongoing projects of BSNL, Reliance JIO & Airtel Telecom Ltd. in District Kishtwar.

At the outset, the concerned officers of BSNL, Reliance JIO and Airtel appraised the chair about the progress of the ongoing projects in the District.

Regarding BSNL, the DC Kishtwar directed to expedite the process of installation of all accessories so that to make the Mobile Towers fully functional & operational at Chanjer, Yardoo, Margi & Brayan in Sub- Division Marwah which stands completed.

The SDE, BSNL was directed to ensure the completion of process of deployment of vendors within weeks time so that the work on the installation & er****on of Towers at Qaderna & Pathgam shall be started and completed in time bound manner.

The SDE, BSNL was further directed to follow and pursue with the higher authorities of BSNL for granting approval for installation of Towers at Gumri, Dherna & Mungli besides directed to conduct the joint survey at Ranie & Mungli on priority.

Regarding Reliance JIO, DC directed to complete the process of laying of JIO fiber by or before 10th of August 2025 so that JIO Network shall be made fully operational and functional by 15th August 2025.

Regarding Bharti Airtel Ltd, DC directed to expedite the process of planning approval, vendor deployment / allotment for Ex*****on of works so that the projects shall be get completely within stipulated timeline.

All the concerned Representatives of BSNL, Reliance JIO & Airtel Telecom Ltd. assured DC Kishtwar that all the directions shall be implemented in letter and spirit on ground.

The meeting was attended by CPO Kishtwar Shahnawaz Bali, besides representatives of BSNL, Reliance JIO & Airtel Telecom Ltd.
