"Make America Great Again"—At What Cost?
America first. The rest of the world? Irrelevant. Withdrawing from the Paris Agreement, cutting green energy subsidies, ramping up fossil fuel exports—none of it affects the daily lives of those making these decisions. The average American emits over 14 tons of CO₂ annually, while the average Indian emits less than 2 tons. And yet, when the glaciers melt, when the monsoons collapse, when rivers run dry, it won’t be America struggling to survive—it will be India, the Global South, the vulnerable millions.
The irony? Even in India, there are those who admire the very forces accelerating our suffering. Blind loyalty to power, even at the cost of one's own future. The DG set in a small-town wedding, spewing black smoke, and the U.S. president pulling out of climate agreements—both operate on the same principle: “If it benefits me today, why should I care about tomorrow?”
But the climate does not wait. Science does not pause. Beyond 1.5°C warming, feedback loops take over—self-sustaining destruction, beyond human control. The glaciers won’t stop melting just because policies change in four years. The crops won’t grow back just because we finally wake up.
This is not just about Trump, or the U.S., or politics. This is human recklessness, magnified by power. America emits, India suffers. And the world watches, hoping it’s not too late. 🌍🔥
