The Guinea Chicken and the Giant Watermelon
There was a small village — its name was Watermelonpur. Here, people lived happily, and chickens were respected like kings and queens. But the biggest attraction of the village was a strange phenomenon — the Guinea Chicken.
The Guinea Chicken was a huge, intelligent chicken. It felt like an earthquake was happening when it walked. But it was the favorite of everyone in the village. Why? It could predict rain in advance by saying ‘Kakku Doo Doo’ just once!
One morning, it was seen — the Guinea Chicken was standing in the middle of the village, holding a giant watermelon. The watermelon was so big that even five people could not lift it together. The village boy Pintu, surprised, put his hand on the watermelon, and the Guinea Chicken said,
“Kakku Kok... Don’t open this watermelon, there is something secret inside!”
Pintu stopped. The people of the village gathered. Someone said, “This must be a magic watermelon!”
Someone said, “Maybe there are golden seeds inside!”
At that moment, the guinea hen slowly pecked at the watermelon… Tung! There was a loud noise, and from inside came out… a small golden egg!
The old man of the village, Madan Kaka, said,
“This is a magic egg! A new generation of guinea hens will hatch from it!”
Everyone shouted with joy. Since then, “Ginni Diwas” has been celebrated every year in Tarmujpur, where everyone eats watermelon together and sees the hens dance.
