Our College Street walking tour last Saturday saw a group of enthusiastic guests navigate the chaotic streets around the College Square area to discover gems hidden in plain sight.

We explored the history of College Square and the prominent people and institutions that played a role in shaping Bengali society over the last 200 years.

The tour ended on a delightfully nostalgic note at the iconic Indian Coffee House, as we shared our vision for and experiences of this city we call home.

Thanks to for supporting us in this endeavour!

South Park Street Cemetery is a silent haven in a city that refuses to give you peace and quiet.

Nestled snugly at the end of Park Street (formerly Burial Ground Road, named after the cemetery), the cemetery was mostly active between 1767 and 1790, although burials continued long after, until the 1830s.

Today, South Park Street Cemetery is an open-air museum, with hundreds of stories to tell.

Come join us on a walking tour of South Park Street Cemetery and discover some of the stories that lie forgotten today, all but buried by the sands of time.

Subho Bijoya to all!

We ended our Durga Puja 2025 walking tours with a traditional mid-river immersion experience on Dashami (2nd October).

Our explorers braved large crowds and intermittent rain to catch a glimpse of the cultural phenomenon that is idol immersion.

From "boron" and "sindur khela" at Bagbazar Sarbojonin to the mid-river "bhashan" of Sovabazar Rajbari, to being surprised with gulab jamun and cold drinks at Gangaprasad Sen's house, we were in the midst of the greatest celebration of the year in Bengal!

Thank you to everyone who joined us and contributed to the success of our event. 🙏🏻

Another auspicious day of Durga Puja 2025, another delightful walking tour!

This asthami, we walked the streets of Jorasanko and Pathuriaghata, paying homage to the Goddess in the mansions of Sutanuti's earliest settlers.

From the unique Haragouri idol at Baishnabdas Mullick's Bari to the 333-year-old celebrations at Harakutir, it was an evening of incredible stories about babu culture and discussions on the significance of bonedi bari pujos in a city dominated by theme-based commercial mass art.

A big thank you to everyone who joined!

The Bonedi Bari Trails kicked off with a delightful exploration of the life and times of the earliest millionaires that Calcutta produced in the early 19th century.

We talked about eminent Bengali personalities like Nilmoni Mitra, Ramdulal De Sarkar, and Motilal Seal, while visting their palatial houses to witness the grandeur of their centuries-old Durga puja celebrations.

We also had the opportunity to speak to some of the family members, resulting in a delightful mix of oral history and well-researched facts.

Bonedi baris visited:
Darjipara Mitra Bari
Chatubabu Latubabu Thakurbari
Motilal Seal Thakurbari
Badan Chand Roy Bari
Purna Chandra Dhar Bari

From Singapore to Kumartuli.. a walk to remember!

It was a Sunday morning like any other, except for one important difference.. it was Mahasasthi and Kumartuli was already celebrating Durga Puja 2025.

So, when led a group of travellers through the streets of Kumartuli, they were bound to have a great time!

Amid great conversations and bite-sized doses of history, this group experienced Kumartuli like locals.

This panchami, we started off our Durga puja 2025 by hosting a heritage enthusiast who likes calling himself "history'r poka".

Through discussions of Kolkata's lesser-known history and the role of bonedi baris in shaping the social and cultural landscape of 19th century Calcutta, it was a delightful experience.
