National Award Winner for Best Film 2024

Malayalam movie Attam (The Play) won the National Award yesterday. This film won the award at a time when the situation around us is exactly the same. The demonic incident that happened with a doctor in our Kolkata, the anger of the people of West Bengal and the whole of India has reached its peak.

Those who have seen the movie know very well how and why the movie is so relevant to today's times, and for those who haven't seen it, I won't give too many spoilers. The story starts with an incident of one night, and how director Anand Ekarshi slowly changes the patriarchal attitudes of all men is interesting. The story is very well written and all the actors have done a great job, especially Zareen Shihab, who plays the role of Anjali. Director Anand Ekarshi tries to talk about the problems of today's society through the theater group, and shows how the powerful people of the society can make the truth false.

I saw the movie earlier this year, I was optimistic about the movie, and now it won the National Award and it has proved it right. We all watch commercial movies, but watch movies like this too, otherwise we'll not see this kind of work again.

Aadujeevitham

I recently watched a great movie from Malayalam industry of this year called 'Aadujeevitham The Goat Life' on Netflix. This movie is special because it was made with a lot of passion and hard work, It took 16 years to make this movie, and 6 years for shooting time. We can really feel the dedication and effort that went into it while watching. It's a movie that reminds us why we love cinema.

The movie Aadujeevitham is based on a book by Benyamin about a man named Najeeb Mohammad from Kerala. Najeeb leaves in his village with his family, but searching for better life he goes to Saudi Arabia to work. , but because he don't understand the language the country. He gets stuck and force to work of herding the goats. the movie begins here, and the main story is about how Najeeb survive from there.

Prithviraj Sukumaran did an amazing job in this film which many actors of today cannot even imagine. We all have seen Aamir Khan's body transformation in Dangal, but you will be stunned to see the body transformation done by Prithviraj in this movie.

Director Blessy has not only directed this film but has also written its screenplay. Perhaps no one else can show Najeeb's pain the way Blessy has. Sunil KS's cinematography in Aadujeevitham doesn't try to make the desert look pretty. Instead, he makes the desert looks scary and intense atmosphere. Finally, the music by sir AR Rahman in this movie will stay with you long after you watch it, the BGM of this film will always resonate in your ears. But I don't understand why they added the songs in this kind of survival films, the film became longer because of this. But it's still set a level that no other survival film could match in the future years.

Maharaja

Director : Nithilan Swaminathan

Maharaja is undoubtedly one of the best film so far. The Screenplay of the film was well written, it's the example of how a simple story turned into a extraordinary film just because of the screenplay. when you starting to watch it, it's constantly raising the question, "what is next?"

When Vijay Sethupathi comes to the police station to lodge a report about the theft of an old dustbin from his house and how the story progresses step by step from there. and how the secrets are revealed one by one, you just can't imagine. but if you are hardcore cinema lover, I think you can guess the climax. Director has given some hints to the audience in few scenes.

Everyone is superb in acting. Vijay Sethupathi is just awesome, and also Anurag Kashyap. you can love everyone's performance.

And last but not the least, I'm really enjoy the scene of police station, where the name of the thief is police. the director try to told us it in a funny way, but its also truth, Kabhi kabhi police bhi chor hota hai.

I recently watched a film and it took me almost few days to gather my thoughts to write this review and I am not sure if I have done justice to it. This is because the film isn’t like any other film and maybe that’s why It was selected as the Indian entry of 2020 for the Best International Feature Film at the 93rd Academy Awards. I am talking about Jallikattu, an Indian Malayalam-language film which directed by Lijo jose pellissery.
