Cumene hydroperoxide rearrangement is an acid-catalyzed Hock rearrangement that converts cumene hydroperoxide into phenol and acetone.

Mechanism:
1. Protonation of –OOH group.
2. O–O bond cleavage → carbocation next to oxygen.
3. Phenyl group migrates to oxygen.
4. Rearrangement produces phenol and acetone.

Industrial Significance:
1. Basis of the cumene process (major industrial route).
2. Over 90% of world phenol is produced by this method.
3. Also provides acetone as a useful byproduct.
