Ladakh’s first ice hockey tournament of the season is being organised in the form of 12th Late Lady Stanzin Otzes inter-village ice hockey tournament in Durbuk village of Lalok region. The tournament is being organised by Lalok Winter Sports Association and 114 BDE to encourage local youths to take part in winter sports. Lalok region in Ladakh historically took the stewardship in promoting the game of ice hockey in Ladakh since its introduction to the region in 1960s and more actively from the beginning of 2000 with the inception of Centralised Residential School in Lalok.
Total of 8 teams within Lalok are participating in the tournament along with two women’s teams. LWSA intends to select its team for Leh winter tournaments out of this tournament. 114BDE as the first BDE of the Indian Army posted in Ladakh has been working with LWSA to promote the games in the Lalok region of eastern Ladakh. LWSA plans to host its kids and women's team coaching post 15th Dec, 2024.

Under the National Population Education Program of NCERT, the District Institute of Education and Training (DIET) Kargil successfully conducted a two-day district-level Role Play and Folk Dance competition for schools under the 9th Class category.

The initiative aims to promote cultural heritage among students and encourage the exchange of cultural values at national level. Yawar Abass actor, Rigzin cultural artist and Khursheda HoD were the jury members for role play and Absss Skit Musical Artist, Khursheeda HOD and Rigzin were the jury members for Folk Dance.

On the final day of the competition, under Role Play Category, HS Lankoor scored 1st position, HSS Barsoo 2nd position and under Folk Dance Category HS Bodh Kharboo got 1st position and HS Garkoon on the 2nd position.

The UT-level competition is scheduled to take place on 13th December 2024 in District Kargil. The top two position holders from each category after UT level competition will represent the UT of Ladakh in the national competition on 8th January 2025.

The Advisor to the Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor UT Ladakh, Dr. Pawan Kotwal chaired a meeting on the "Constitution of UT level Sea buckthorn Mission" at the Civil Secretariat Leh.
Commissioner Secretary, Agriculture and Horticulture, laltinkhuma Franklin provided a comprehensive PowerPoint presentation on the Sea buckthorn cultivation in UT Ladakh. The presentation covers key aspects including UT schemes: Special Development Packages, CSS scheme: Mission for Integrated Development of Horticulture.
During the meeting, discussions and deliberations were held on the requirement of modern techniques and methods to improve sea buckthorn harvesting. The meeting also discussed UT schemes (SDP) being implemented for the promotion of sea buckthorn in UT Ladakh and milestones achieved under these schemes.
It is pertinent to mention here that the Ladakh region is harvesting 5-6% Sea buckthorn annually, 666MT was harvested by berry collectors in the year 2024, while 315 MT was harvested in the year 2023. Keeping in view the financial and medicinal value of Sea buckthorn, Advisor Ladakh, Dr. Pawan Kotwal instructed the officials to create fire lines as early as possible for its preservation and promotion. He further said that the farmers of the UT Ladakh should be encouraged to cultivate sea buckthorn. Both the District Magistrates of Leh and Kargil have been instructed to identify the land for the Sea Buckthorn nurseries, where all the environmental conditions are favorable.
Emphasizing on the contract farming, the Advisor said that it should be introduced. It is a formal or informal agreement between farmers and buyers that outlines the terms and conditions for the production and marketing of agricultural products. The meeting discussed the bottleneck areas, including the challenges faced by entrepreneurs and buyers engaged in Sea buckthorn processing, and explored strategies for enhancing harvesting tools and methods. The meeting was attended by the Principal Secretary of UT Ladakh; Commissioner Secretary Health and Medical Education UT Ladakh; Commissioner Secretary of Agriculture and Horticulture UT Ladakh; Additional Principal Chief Conservator of Forest; District Magistrate Leh; Director of Commerce and Industries; and other concerned officials. Director RDD and other concerned officials joined the meeting virtually.

The Additional District Development Commissioner Sonam Nurboo convened a meeting to review the progress of telecom connectivity in Vibrant Villages of Ladakh at the VC Room, DC Office, Leh.
During the meeting, BSNL officials presented a progress report on tower foundation completion, tower er****on completion, electrical works completion, TCS I&C completion, and tower radiating (on air).
The officials informed that tower foundations in 27 villages have been completed, while tower er****on has been completed in 20 villages. Power infrastructure installation has also been completed at 10 sites. The officials stated that work is ongoing and is expected to be completed by next year.
Telecom connectivity issues at Chumur and Thang villages were also discussed during the meeting. ADDC Leh thoroughly reviewed the progress and instructed the officials to expedite their work.
The meeting was attended by officials from BSNL, Jio telecom and PDD Department.

The Advisor to Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor UT Ladakh, Dr. Pawan Kotwal virtually launched The Digidoc-Digital Ex*****on of Documents, developed at the Stock Holding Corporation India Limited. The official launching of the Stockholding Digidoc was held at the Civil Secretariat Leh.
Michael M D Sauza, Inspector General of Registration, UT Ladakh (Secretary GAD), Shrikant Balasaheb Suse, Deputy Commissioner, Kargil, Santosh Sukhdeve, Deputy Commissioner Leh, all the Registrars (ADCs) and Sub Registrars (ACRS & SDMS) of district Leh and Kargil were present on the occasion. Besides, it was also attended by the concerned officers of Stock Holding Corporation of India Ltd. Mumbai and Chandigarh through virtual mode.
Praising the collaborative endeavors of the Stock Holding Corporation of India Limited (SHCIL) officials, the Advisor Ladakh termed the Digidoc platform, wonderful initiative and result oriented, where documents can be executed on real time basis irrespective of geographical locations of parties. He further stated that the platform will provide better services to the people of Ladakh.
Stockholding Digidoc platform enables ex*****on of documents/ contracts in digital mode in a seamless manner along with payment of Stamp duty.
Once executed, the digital document is available immediately for usage, making the document ex*****on process fast, simple, convenient and legally compliant. Digidoc aims to reduce processing time, improve public convenience, and promote a paperless document ex*****on process.
Vivek Khurana, from the SHCIL, provided a comprehensive PowerPoint presentation on the Digidoc and informed the Advisor Ladakh about its functions and objectives of the platform. It is pertinent to mention here that the Stock Holding Corporation of India Limited has been providing e-Stamping services for over 16 years in several States and Union Territories across India. However, in the UT of Ladakh it has been providing its services for the last five years.

Rinchen Youdol, a para-athlete from Bodhkharboo, Kargil in the Union Territory of Ladakh, has created history by winning the Bronze Medal at the 1st World Para Poomsae Taekwondo Championships. Competing in the Senior Female (No Age Bar) category against 140 athletes from 23 countries, Rinchen’s exceptional performance has brought immense pride to Ladakh and India.

The event, held under the patronage of His Excellency Sheikh Mohammed bin Duaij Al Khalifa, featured para-athletes from five continents, showcasing remarkable talent and competition.

Rinchen is the first athlete from Ladakh to achieve this milestone in Taekwondo, marking a new chapter in the region’s sporting history.

Her victory is the result of relentless dedication, hard work, and the unwavering support of her family, coaches, and organizations.

The President of the Ladakh Taekwondo Association commended India Taekwondo, led by its visionary President Namdev Shirgaonkar, for providing equal opportunities to athletes from frontier regions like Ladakh.

Rinchen’s journey was supported by the Cerebral Palsy Association of Ladakh, the Ladakh Taekwondo Association, and local authorities, including Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh Brigadier Dr. BD Mishra (Retd.), Chairman/CEC LAHDC Kargil Dr. Mohd Jaffer Akhoon, Secretary Sports UT Ladakh Vikram Singh Malik, and Director Sports Tahir Hussain Zubdavi.

he Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Brigadier (Dr) BD Mishra (Retd) met the Hon’ble Union Finance Minister, Smt Nirmala Sitharaman in New Delhi.

The HLG discussed the Government of India's decision to revise the budget allocation for the capital component to UT Ladakh for the current Financial Year 2024-25 with the Hon’ble Finance Minister. He also informed the Hon’ble Finance Minister of the decision's repercussions, which could impact the ongoing development projects, especially the ongoing project works of both the Hill Councils, and hamper the overall development of the region.

The HLG requested the Hon’ble Finance Minister to maintain the status quo of the budget allocation for the capital component to UT Ladakh for the current Financial Year 2024-25 and not to reduce the budget for the region's overall development and the timely completion of the ongoing project works.

The Hon’ble Finance Minister assured to look into the matter.

The Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Brigadier (Dr) BD Mishra (Retd) also met the Hon’ble Union Minister for Parliamentary Affairs and Minority Affairs, Shri Kiren Rijiju in New Delhi.
